I didn't see the whole game, but I noticed there was a Washington University sign on the wall or just inside. Did Hairston make a play close to that sign? Dusty could have used it for reference.

I did see Dusty talking to Hairston after the game, but I didn't really pay attention to what he was saying. I didn't want to listen to Dusty b/c I was afraid I would get dumber.

I had the same initial impression when I saw Dusty with his arm around Hairston. I had this game recording on my DVR and went back to see if I could hear what was said.... and I'm fairly certain he was saying "going to this place on Washington St...."

We are antsy for trades, but in this case I think we all heard/saw them discussing dinner plans.

First off Burnitz could play CF.....and if Hairston was traded to Washington, why would Baker tell him that right after a great ending to a game?

"Great game, eh? Oh, by the way, we're sending you to Washington!"

I bet they were talking about something else.

This is the dumbest thing I've ever heard of. He wouldn't tell him on the field about a trade. They had to have been talking about chasing Washington in the wild card since they are blowing it down their leg to 'hotlanta.

yup. you certainly don't want a dramatic episode (aka tantrum) in public.

Hahahaha.

Oh, and this has to be total bunk. I'm not saying that dusty didnt say "washington".

But there is no way that he would have announced that to him on the field.

Yeah I thought it was pretty weird. I almost thought Dusty was sternly talking to him about something in the game. With all we have heard about how JHJ has upset Cubs brass, and how we speculate JRJ's favor with Dusty it seemed weird for him to be pulling Jerry aside and talking to him immediately following a win. I was at ESPNZone with no audio so I couldn't hear anything

This thread just goes to show you how hungry we are for a trade. :D

Since we all are "anxious" for a trade, I would like to be the first to say that:

I have traded: 2 Large Sausage Pizzas, a 2 liter coke, (dusty baker)and a desert to be named later to my friend;

My friend traded: 1 homemade from scratched Lasagna, and a 24 oz can of beer to Meeeeeeeeee.

And I am totally STOKED about the deal. \:D/

Thanks - I just spit a nice amount of Budweiser on my keyboard when I read this...

You got hosed. You could have gotten more than 1 24 oz can of beer. You should have demanded he throw in a bag of doritos and/or chocolate ice cream.

Dusty was talking about U.L. Washington, who played at the same time as Dusty (70s and 80s) and also chewed on a toothpick. :D

Good one.

Or may be he was teaching Jerry some US History:

"No, Jerry, there was no St. Louis back when George Washington was President! You owe me 5 bucks!"

Another thing Dusty would be wrong about. :)

Just wanted to apologize to the board 4 for starting the Hairston fiasco after the game Saturday. I am new to this board as far as posting but I have been visiting here for a while and dont want the rep as a rumor guy. I thought I heard something that obviously I was wrong on.

No worries, you made all the appropriate disclaimers in your post.

You're not alone. I sure thought I heard the same thing.

This thread is of no value and just shows how late-starting the trades are this year. Less than a week 'til the deadline and we really have no solid leads for the Cubs or too many for other teams yet.

Maybe they were talking about someone named "Washington." Maybe they were talking about Washington from "Welcome Back Kotter," the black guy who'd say really smooth "Hi there...."

Who knows!
