Heading to St. Louis after splitting with the worst team in the league is far from reassuring. I expect a slaughter this weekend.

Nah, the Cubs are just saving their strength for the weekend series.

Just pretend that was in green.

People thought I was being unrealistic when I complained about only taking 3 of 4 from Pittsburgh. But today is a prime example of why that series was disappointing.

The best you can ever hope for in most cases on the road is a split of a four game series. Playing a slapdick team like Pittsburgh at home there is absolutely no excuse for taking a day off like the Cubs did last Saturday and they're paying the price for it today.

5-3 after these two series is inexcusable. They should have been looking at no worse than 6-2 after today. Disgraceful.

The ballpark might fool ya, but we're not in Denver.

Great, they scored some more runs.

I'm so freaking sick of this team. If they're gonna lose, please lose 10 straight so Baker gets tossed. I'm sorry, but the turning point of this game is bringing in Novoa for the second straight inning.

And if replace "Novoa" with "Remlinger" then you have the turning point of last night's game.

I see widespread panic and hysteria have reached the board.

why does someone always come and complain about the guys (and gals) here being upset after a devasting loss? Its just flat-out annoying. When you are barely .500, you cant lose these types of games.

This game isnt over and I've been here all day didnt just come in...

It's almost comical how up and down everyone is here depending on what's going on in the game...

And I thought I was capricious.

Because its just one game and I refuse to act the the season is over. We knew our bullpen was bad before the game started the only difference today (and yesterday) is that the starter left early.

One game?!!?! You think this is the only time this had happened? Have you even watched the Cubs this year? Its the same thing over and over again.

Its OK to be optimisitc, but to be so naive and think we are magically going to solve all of our massive holes is silly and then come on the board and criticize people for being negative is wrong. Yes, I realize that you didnt directly criticize anyone, but it was definately intended.

Does Ronny C get to that ball?
No. He doesn't have the experience.

you can't be serious. neifi took a horrible line to that ball. at the very least that should have been knocked down.

way to bring in dempster when it was too late, dusty. :x

Neifi was just unlucky.

LOL (you were being sarcastic, right?)

Yeah. It's easier to pick out the longer you've been here, but as a general rule posters commenting on "experience" or players that are "unlucky" are making fun of Dusty and his stupid decision-making.

For all of Dusty's refusal to play young position players, he sure rides the young bullpen guys way past they are done.

he is always 2 steps behind the situation when it comes to substituting pitchers. he does ok with offensive substitutions (even when it is holly for murton or neifi for cedeno).

I really wish I grew up a Yankee fan. I woulda had a couple of championships already.

You guys do realize I can't even wear my Cubs hat with pride anymore, especially after dumb games like this.

We knew the Reds were going to score some runs today but, what really burns me is the Cubs being shutout for 5 innings by the crap the Reds keep trotting out there.

How is that we continually give up big hits to people like Aurilia, Valentin or Damian Miller. That is what is most annoying, a guy couldn't hit off a tee, but lights up the Cubs.

 Hendry will make a big move by the end of today to make us all :D :) :o about this game.

Hopefully, firing dusty.

I can wear my hat with pride. At least we aren't the Rockies

yeah right he had all offseason to fix the bullpen, that worked out well didn't it? He will do like he always does and wait until the deadline. Again it will be too late.

At least we have macias and neifi in to help with any comebacks.

Holly needs to come in to replace Murton and we'll have the old and crappy trifecta.

Anyways, we haven't lost anything yet, folks. And it's ONE game. RELAX...

We probably will lose it. But the season is nowhere near over...nor would we be a lot better off if we win it.

It isn't just one game. a win here would have sent us into St Louis on a serious role. Now we split with crappy ass Cinncy, you know the same team the Astros just swept in Cinn or one of the teams that beat us out of the playoffs last year in the same type situations. The fact remains this will continue to happen with the clown we have managing our team and bullpen.

I'm sorry, but to me, one game (or two) doesn't mean the difference between serious roll and struggling.

The offense has continued to do well, and as long as that's happening, our starting pitching will get us wins. Our bullpen sucks. We know that, and we knew that less than 24 hours ago when we were winning 7 out of 8 or whatever it was...

Hey, to each his (or her) own.
