That's the type of game the good teams put away.

Our relief pitchers went 3 innings and gave up 6 runs.

The last place Reds' relief pitching went 5 innings and gave up 1 run.

Anyone think we can capture the wild card with those kind of performances?

We need relief help by the trading deadline. Not Dunn. A good bullpen would have saved the game.

We need a LF'er. Murton is hitting well, but Dusty refuses to play him against righties. Holly is below average. Same with Gerut.

 Hendry will make a big move by the end of today to make us all :D :) :o about this game.

yeah right he had all offseason to fix the bullpen, that worked out well didn't it? He will do like he always does and wait until the deadline. Again it will be too late.

How was he too late in 2003? He didn't even wait until the deadline.

And in 2004 it was too late? I'm sorry, but we lost because of what happened in the last 10 days (or so). Not because Hendry waited 10 days (??) too long to make a trade.

Sorry, but I disagree Hendry did not look for that closer until the wiavers were enabled and of course a team blocked us. If we got Mesa or somebody else before the waivers chances are we would not have to rely on Hawkins and probably make it to the playoffs.

The Reds are a bad team b/c of their pitching, not their offense, which is one of the best offenses the Cubs will face this year.

Is this directed at my post? And if so, how?

See, if you ask me, we lost the wild card lead in the last week to ten days because our offense was worn out and couldn't score against some of the worst pitching staffs in the league. Everyone slumped at the same time. Hawkins's blown saves were just a byproduct.

And yes, I realize that without a bunch of our blown saves, we would have also won the wild card last year.. but as Tim and several others here in the past have pointed out, Hawkins wasn't really as bad last year in the closer role as everyone would like to think.

To all of you who are still here:: they just showed that Barrett baserunning again on comcast and that was terrible!!! It was the turning point in the game IMO.

What I love is that Plesac says that you have to cut Barrett some slack because he has a sore leg, yet I remember last year playing the cards and ROlen was hustling and killing us even though he had just came back from a leg injury. I am sure a similar thing will happen when Nomar comes back.

WE always have excuses--ALWAYS!!!!!!!!!!

I agree 100% witht the guy who talks about the difference between cubs and cards is not talent--it is execution. That is why the sum of our parts always seem to be greater than the sum of our whole!!

I am heading to St Louis this weekend and I fear what I am going to see......is it going to be a knockout blow??

In my eyes LF is a want. This team can score more than 4 runs a game which should be enough to yield a win on most days. The priority should be in stabilizing middle relief. If our pitchers can't go 7 we're most likely in big trouble.

I realize we have a rivalry with STL but you can make the same comparisons with that team and others in the league. As far as your question is concerned, we'll see how the weekend shapes up.

yup, a LF doesn't score us the runs needed to win that ballgame. the right reliever stuck in at the right time (dusty, you genius) does.

Yeah, Hawkins WAS that bad, and on top of that faultered at the end where it really counted and had a .333 save % in 1run save situations. He sucked.

Nice loss today losers. Bullpen sucks. Better hope Prior, Z, and Williams can pitch at least 8 inning in each of their games in St. Louis. Otherwise we're in trouble.

I really don't get these attedance numbers.....

Monday night... 24,664

Tuesday night... 27,363

Wednesday afternoon.... 36,498

They must be giving away tickets to this one !!

There were a TON of kids there, all wearing matching shirts so their masters could easily collect them. They and their ignorant elders among the Reds' fandom were dazzled by the artificial enthusiasm crap on the scoreboard.

Cincinnati hasn't been a good baseball town in years. Opening Day brings some passion, then Cub fans bring some to town for 2-3 series a year. That's it.

It really is a shame what's happened to Cincy. It used to be such a good baseball town. Their management doesn't have a clue and it's only going to get worse for their fans. I feel bad for them.

The Reds haven't had a sustained suckage streak like this since the 1940s (yet somehow they kick our asses at the most inopportune times.)

Lindner's looking to sell off controlling interest, so maybe Allen and his cronies will be sent packing one day. I hope so, not for the goofballs who show up at GABP but for the diehards who've stuck with the club for years and years.

Yeah, the Cards put guys on in front of Pujols. The Cubs just started getting guys on in front of Lee. But if Walker keeps tearing the cover off the ball, Lee will never win the RBI crown. But as long as the team keeps winning, I don't care if he never gets another RBI again.

Pujols has had more ABs with runners on than Lee (160 to 135--second and sixth in the NL respectively)...but Lee has actually had more ABs with runners in scoring position than Pujols has (87 to 81--third and fifth in the NL respectively).

Lee's getting his chances.
