Ok...I'm close to done with Kerry. Seriously how often do we have to wait for him to get healthy....He hasn't had a string of 10 straight starts w/o injury since seemingly 03....Give me Glendon and let Kerry relieve, sit, trade(yes...I know...no-trade-clause)....I'm just getting tired of it.

I really like Woody, but I'm starting to feel the same way. I'm tired of this. He spends more time on the DL then he does pitching. It's getting ridiculous. :wall:

This is awful news and I feel bad for Wood since he really is a gamer. You can see that he wants to do more, but his body isn't up to the task.

I like Wood a lot, but his durability is questionable. The organization needs to ask itself whether or not Wood's body is cut out to be a starter in the major leagues for a full season. I keep thinking that he may have to move to relief eventually.

If the Cubs want him to start, then, clearly, we cannot pen him into the starting rotation for the rest of the year; the most we can do is pencil him in and we will always have to be prepared that he may not start the next game or need to come out early. I don't see how we can capture the wild card this way.

Once again Stone is a first guesser and not a second guesser.

predicting that a guy who gets hurt all the time will continue to do so (assuming he is hurt) isnt altogether impressive

Sheesh he can't even stay healthy enough to deal him. I gave up on him after his last injury. He's damaged goods. Thankfully they got Rusch, who I was hoping they'd deal off. Would love to see Hendry get Burnett along w/ Dunn. Not sure if he has enough to offer though. Then deal Wood off in the offseason, as more or less a salary dump. Pick up some good prospects, whatever. Kerry's probably not worth much, if anything. I hope Kerry makes me eat this post, but I highly doubt it.

i like kerry, i want him to succeed here....

...but if his latest shoulder causes him to miss any more time this season I'll be officially done with considering Kerry an integral part of the team. If you can't count on him, the fact that he's statistically a dominant pitcher is meaningless.

So, can we expect another MRI scheduled for tommorow?
.

I'm sure. Then a side session, then they'll skip him next turn, then a sim game, and then...who knows...but we all should know how Wood injuries go as far as the chronology by now.

I'm sorry if this is coming across harshly, but I've lost patience with Wood. If he misses more than one start, I'll go ballistic.

Im guessing its his delivery. It just looks plain ugly from his right side.

I never was a pitcher. Was a fielder, so I don't know much about mechanics. Was more of a basketball player actually... Anyway, is Wood just stubborn or is it that he doesn't have the intelligence to learn proper mechanics. I've seen this written before about his mechanics. Wood never struck me as the sharpest knife. Maybe three years at USC w/ Prior would have helped him. :)

I seriously doubt that Wood is capable of hanging with Prior (much less Gerut! The guy's apparently some kind of brainiac) academically. I didn't see, nor did I hear today's game (fortunately!) - but from what I've read here, it sounds like Kerry started missing his spots early and getting behind on the hitters. He's a guy who likes to dominate and has done so (again, when he's on and healthy) since he was a young teenager - so my theory is that when he started losing ground, he panicked, resorted to some old bad habits (poor mechanics), and got himself into more trouble game-wise and most probably another stint on the DL.

Everyone is sick of this euphemism called shoulder stiffness - at least, the fans sure as heck are. If Kerry is going to succeed in any major league club for any sustainted length of time, he has got to keep his head and stick with the game plan even during those times that he for some reason cannot pitch his "A" game. I mean, Greg Maddux has gotten shelled plenty in the last two seasons we've seen him pitch, yet thus far (crossing fingers) he still manages to bring the big game when the team needs it (he stepped up the first half considerably from his usual form when Wood and Prior went down this season), and has been putting up 15-win seasons (yeah, I know, but it's still an impressive stat) seemingly forever.

I'm sure Rothschild has been talking to him; I'm sure Maddux has said a few words; and I'm sure Kerry is sick of hearing it. But the guy's got to learn that while he does have dominating stuff, he has to rein things in -- he's not some freak of nature like Randy Johnson or Roger Clemens.

Kid K of the 20 Ks is gone, but the man who's left has the POTENTIAL to be a good pitcher... IF HE USES HIS BRAIN. Otherwise, we have a less-violent, $10 million Farnsworth on our hands.

How many more years is Wood signed for at 10 million? If he gets 10 wins this year I will be happy. That's 1 million per win. And boy he sure changed his mechanics simce his DL stint.

Kerry has such awesome stuff - if he just stays around the strike zone and throws strikes he's going to be a perennial all-star....

Pretty frustrating... just when things were starting to consistently gel.

Your post is my exact setiments. how about getting him healthy and win five games then trade him to boston for Matt "never been on the DL "Clement. Oh that right many on this board thought I was nut for being an advocate for a durable inning eating potentially Cy Young awarding pitcher.

I'll settle for Dunn also

If Wood is hurt for an extended period, which is speculation at this point, the Cubs will have to make due. I realize this is a discussion board but some people push the panic button too soon. Obviously, trading him at this point isnt an option, all we can do is hope he is healthy enough to make some starts...

As I was looking around the net I found a little ode to this thread:

What's mostly amusing is I know for a fact that a majority of the criticism about our board there is from banned posters.

It's like the student that bad mouths the teacher who sent them to the principal's office for their own misbehavior.
