  1. Kind of like how we beat the Astros and St. Louis yet get beat by the Reds and other terrible teams.
  2. I think we will win tomorrow. I was worried about tonight but Maddux really looked good. I expect Carlos to dominate tomorrow and they'll get three or four runs off Roy. Ryan in the 9th still scares the hell out of me even though the save record is good. I'll also pull for Philadelphia to take 2 of the next 3.
  3. I agree, he is a very overrated player. His stats are good but he is certainly not among the best in the game. Usually you will hear people call him a winner. He is a winner by virtue of who he played with. I think if you had replaced him with A-Rod in 1996, the Yankees would still have those four rings and maybe one more.
  4. They should be better than this. The pitching staff should have kept them well above .500.
  5. I agree 100%. I have the extra innings and can see almost all Cubs games. Why can't fox just pick up the games and give us a choice of the one we see? I am stuck with Atlanta every week.
  6. I'd go: Todd Lawton Burnitz Knowing Dusty at times it might be this: Perez Blanco Lee
  7. Maybe if all those players were on the Cubs....
  8. I doubt it. Cubs are cooked if that happens. What I *hope* is that we play well the rest of the way and beat Houston in the head to head games and then it should take care of itself.
  9. :x :x :x :x :x :x :x :x :x :x :x :? :? :? :?
  10. Since when are the Yankees good? You forgot to bring up the little fact that the Yankees get beat 5 out of 6 quite a bit too.
  11. I didn't look this up, but I think he is something like 15/16. That rate compares with the best closers in the game. He may not be a Gagne or Rivera, but he is still doing a terrific job. Also, he is a lifetime starter so if the situation comes up where he must pitch 3 innings, he should be able to handle it.
  12. Williamson should give the pen a boost when he returns. Yeah, if he is the Williamson of old. I have no idea what to expect from him. If he is like he was during his old Reds days, that will be a major plus for the pen.
  13. I think that is what will happen. I am sure that when we look up in September, Washington will have fallen apart and Atlanta will be in control of the east. Nearly every team in that division is reasonably competitive. I think that gives the Cubs a good shot. Florida, Atlanta, Washington, New York, and Philadelphia can beat up on each other while the Cubs take care of weaker opponents like Pittsburgh and Cincinnati. If we hold our own against St. Louis, the rest should not be too bad.
  14. We don't even have to go on a tear like they did. Remember they were around the 500 mark in late August. We just need to keep playing solid the rest of the way and things will fall into place.
  15. He won 16 games last year and the year before after getting off to a similar start. Not to mention having him in the clubhouse cannot hurt the young pitchers the cubs have. If he pitches 400 innings in these two years, that should be an indication that he is pitching well enough to keep for a third year.
