According to Skip Bayless. Part of his argument is based on number of All-Star appearances and MVP balloting, which strikes me as incredibly lame.

He also says Sosa shouldn't be in because he wasn't clutch.

Like I needed another reason to dismiss everything Skip Bayless writes. There's no way 3,000+ hits and 500+ homers won't get him into the HOF.

This is just Skip trying to get some notice by taking an unconventional stance on a story in the news.

I really don't have any feelings about Palmiero in the Hall of Fame but this snipet made me roll my eyes.

Forgive me, but I want my Hall of Fame to admit only larger-than-life players. Make that Gary Coopers-town. If you have to think twice about it …

Wade Boggs? Yes! Ryne Sandberg? Uh, well …

Sandberg belongs in the Hall of Very Good. Yet Boggs and Sandberg will both be inducted into the Hall of Fame on July 31.

skip bayless is an idiot whose columns deliberately fly in the face of popular opinion to get a rise out of people. this article is a complete joke.

Exactly.

Of course, Skip Bayless lost all crediblity with me 10+ years ago when, writing an article before the Cowboys/Packers NFC Championship game, he called Reggie White "Betty" for some reason. I think it was because he wasn't aggressive enough or some crap like that.

Bayless is a punk, and nothing would make me happier than having one of the athletes he's spoken ill of corner him in the locker room and.... well, use your imagination.

Bayless is a sorry excuse for a journalist. There's no way you can look at Palmeiro and Sosa's numbers and not conclude they are HOFers. It's ridiculous to assume other wise.

How Bayless has kept a job this long is beyond me. He's been run out of Dallas and Chicago.

Couldn't have said it better. He's a sports radio personality who gets paid to write.

Growing up I loved to read Bernie Lincicome's hilarous columns in the Tribune. Then he went to Denver and they brought in Skip Bayless.

I hate Skip Bayless. I hate his name, I hate what he writes, I hate the way he talks, I hate his stupid face with those grotesque permanently arched eyebrows. See, I avoid superficial attacks like that last one, but I really, really hate Skip Bayless. And he deserves it.

I think we found one issue that everyone at NSBB can unite on.

Count me in.

As an attorney, I am held to professional standards/ethics, and if I fail to adhere to them, my peers are expected to hold me accountable.

Shouldn't journalists do the same? Don't they have as great a responsibility as lawyers do? Where are Bayless' peers?

so dawson belongs in the hall, but raffy doesn't?

.279/.323/.482 vs. .289/.371/.516

The argument for Dawson as HOF material

1. only person with 300 HRs and 300 Stolen bases that's not in the HOF or named Barry Bonds. The other 2 being Mays and Bobby Bonds- that's pretty select company.

2. injuries cut his career short

He's borderline but his numbers are pretty comparable to Tony Perez (if memory serves) minus the WS rings.

I wasn't saying that Dawson doesn't belong, he has a case. But to write that Dawson does belong in the Hall in the same article where you say Raffy doesn't is ridiculous.

I'm with Rocket on this one. Dawson is border-line. A case could be made either way. I love Andre and on sentimentality alone, I wish he'd be inducted, but I can also see why he's been denied thus far. On the other hand, Palmeiro is a no doubter. 500 HR or 3000 has always been a lock and he has both. He may never have been great, but he's been consistently good for a very long time and that should get him in. To say he doesn't belong is pure lunancy.

I didn't think that you thought Dawson didn't belong. I was just poiinting out how thin the argument is for Dawson and the irony that Bayless is saying the HOF is watered down and is using Dawson an example.

I can't envision a time when 3,000 hits doesn't get a player into the HOVG.

3000+ Hits and (probably at least) 600 HRs = H.O.F in my opinion.

First base is a tough postion to be an All-Star at because there are so many good ones..

Bayless is #2 on my list of Sports personalities I despise.. right behind Collinsworth.

I agree. Maybe not on the first ballot, but definitely, he's in.

How is he not a first balloter. When you are grouped with Hank Aaron, Eddie Murray, and Willie Mays you are a first ballot hall of famer.

Palmeiro's a no-doubt HOFer.

Andre Dawson? We can begin talking about him after the extremely underrated and underappreciated Tim Raines is inducted.
