why did mesa throw at hairston there? i missed the last half inning, so i'm assuming it's for the fist pump after the slam?

Why waste Wuertz in this game??

Mike has apparantly tumbled down the depth chart. He was wasted in the first game of that Atlanta doublheader, and he's no longer being used like a setup man. Novoa, who has been either great or awful has somehow gotten the job without showing much.

No one seems to want the set-up role. Maybe we'll have to wait for Williamson, I don't know. But Wuertz has turned into the righty version of Glendon Rusch with his WHIP. I don't know why Novoa would be considered the set-up man he hasn't done much better.

I'd like Williams out of the rotation, where he hasn't impressed me at all, and into a setup role.

Williams is a strter, and he's pitching better than Mitre or Rusch. He has had success at the ML level, and he has a better repetoire of pitches. Rusch is slumping badly, and Mitre is wildly inconsistent. IMO, Williams will better better than both over the long haul.

Jerry didnt do anything to them. Mesa is old school so he tried hitting him then continued the nonsense after the at bat was over. JHJ is just standing up for himself.

Wait... what happened??

During JHJ (Jerry Hairston Jr.) Bat, Mesa threw a pitch way behind him (It did look inteinoally) and Hairston didn't like that too much. Home plate umpire gives a warning to both benches. Then Hairston popped out, jogged away to the Cub bench, said something to Mesa as he was on the way, and well, let's just say if I typed it out on here, it would get me banned. Yeah, there was some foul language, that's for sure.

Assume it was because of the grand slam, but didn't hear anything from Ron and Pat.

Can some kind soul give us stuck at work the play by play of the freakout?

As he was running across the diamond Jerry said something to Mesa without moving his head. Mesa blew his cover and started yapping back. Initially Jerry kept jogging, and talking without looking back. Then he stopped and pointed a finger. Mesa walked toward the Cubs dugout (toward, but not near), umps got in between and tossed Mesa.

What the heck just happened, for us WORKING people. AHEM.

Pardon me? I am working now. My Sony Viao has Gia Pocket which allows me to watch TV via the computer.

Probably not a good move by McClendon/Mesa there. In a 4 game series you're likely facing at least two of: Prior, Wood Zambrano and unless it's the last game in the series, you gotta expect a little payback from one of these hard throwers.

Chin muzak to Bay tomorrow or Sunday.

Phew. It looked like Murton would be left in the on deck circle for the 2nd straight inning.

There is far greater success of Mitre succeeding as a starter and Williams as a reliever than Williams as a starter and Mitre as a reliever. Williams isn't pitching well, and his relative success 2 years ago doesn't mean much. He doesn't strike many out, and gives up too many hard hit balls and fly balls.

I know i am in the monority around here to be happy with Brenly and Kasper and even happier that Stone and CHip are gone.

But tell me this--was it not kind of refreshing to actually here someone sticking up for the cubs in a situation like the Mesa-Hariston thing.

Does anyone have ESPN and know what Stone said about it? I know if he had CHip to feed off of, it probably would have been something sarcastica about the cubs like "Oh now Jerry Hariston hits a Homerun and somehow he thinks he has turned into Hulk Hogan"

I really doubt that Stoney would ever say that in a situation like that. Now, if Hairston was on the other team, then yeah.

If you are in the minority, so I am. I much prefer Brenly and Kasper.
