IRod for Puerto Rico... couldn't find a Puerto Rican with more than 7 homeruns? Really... since it seems they dont care about AL/NL splits (5 NL, possibly 6 if DLee doesn't turn it down), why not a guy with, I don't know, 17 homers? I'm talking about Carlos Delgado.

Sad thing is, Ivan was born in NY.

Golden HR ball? What is that?

I would like to withdrawl my statement about that being something that butchers the derby. I thought it was like the multi-colored basketball in the 3-point competition, it is worth more points. However, I was wrong, it actually gives money to charity if they hit it out. I'm a loser.

Yeah, so I don't like this "worldwide" competition. I just want the top 4 home run hitters from each league, regardless.

Screw that even. Why not just have the top 8 in baseball. Its a home run derby, not a "league leaders in HR derby"

i agree, if it aint broke dont fix it. hopefully this will only be a one-time affair.

I don't get it. The second biggest baseball country in the world Japan doesn't have an entry. Was Matsui really that busy during All Star Weekend? Even Ichiro could do it if he has to. Hee Seop Choi? Huh?

No, this is Selig. If it ain't broke, break it, then smash the pieces into tiny bits with a hammer. Then burn the little bits in a fire, and douse the fire with toilet water.

Fixed it for you.

It would be wonderful to watch Z swinging, but by the time we got to 'swinging and swinging and swinging', I'd get worried he might pull something. Maybe next year. :)

So, every year there is one derby participant that doesnt hit many homers and leaves many people wondering, "How did______ get to participate"? or "Can you believe________only hit 1 hr"?

Pick the loser:

Player Team Country Season Total

Bobby Abreu Phillies Venezuela 18

Jason Bay Pirates Canada 16

Hee-Seop Choi Dodgers South Korea 13

Andruw Jones Braves Curacao 27

Carlos Lee Brewers Panama 22

David Ortiz Red Sox Dominican Rep. 21

Ivan Rodriguez Tigers Puerto Rico 6

Mark Teixeira Rangers United States 24

I've got choi, but Bay could be the guy.

My first pick to fail, is Ichiro, who was asked to be in to represent Japan as well. Hmm. He hasn't hit 20 hrs, since '95 in Japan, and amassed 13 in his most power prolific MLB season. Although he has a monster .639 SLG in Comerica since 2002, I'm shocked that one would even consider him. Thankfully he declined, commenting on his stats. Smart guy.

That being said, of those who accepted the nominations, my pick to fail is... Pudge. Sorry, but home field advantange isn't going to help him. In close second to last though, Bay.

This is pathetic. only THREE of the top ten hr hitters in baseball are playing. If I was in charge, It would look like this:

1. A Jones NL

2. M Teixeira AL

3. M Ensberg NL

4. A Dunn NL

5. A Rodriguez AL

6. C Floyd NL

7. C Lee NL

8. A Pujols NL

Now, I left lee out because we already know he turned down an invite. But, If it was up to me, thats what it would look like. Those are the top 9 (lee is missing, of course) HR hitters in baseball. So what if there are only two AL guys. What does it matter, its a HR derby. not an AL NL derby. Thats what Tuesday is for.

EDIT: I just realized Tejada was not part of that group. Oh well i guess, I strongly beleive it should be the top HR hitters. Tejada didnt do enough HR hitting during the season to make it to my derby, so tough cookies. :P
