 , I think Carlos would love to do it. He would be so fun to watch!

If there was a pitcher's Home Run Derby, he'd win!!!

I don't know...I think Hampton might have a say in that.

What about Wood? He has 7 career home runs.

And Hampton has doubled that plus one. But Wood would be a possibility.

Ah, I did not know that.

I think Abreau will flop the hardest. My pick to win it all: Choi. I don't know why some people don't think he'll do well. His problem is he has a big hole in his swing inside, and he doesn't handle curves that well. But he has enormous power when he makes contact. The books out on him though, and the pitchers know how to pitch him. Since this is like batting practice, that doesn't apply. Choi isn't the best hitter, but I think he has the as much power as anyone else, and that's what counts for the HR contest.

He wasn't born there - he was born in Curacao (same place as Randall Simon). I believe the Netherlands have control over Curacao - like Curacao is a territory of the Netherlands or something like that.

Well, if MLB is going to be technical, and say that Curacao = the Netherlands, then, umm, shouldn't they also consider Puerto Rico = USA?

To add more fat to the Curacao fire, they won the Little League World Series last year. I don't remember Curacao passing that honor on to the Netherlands...

Isn't Matt Stairs Canadian? If so I can't see why they'd let Bay embarass himself.

THe chance to see Ichiro was my only reason for watching this. I'm too old to play a drinking games related to HR derby:

Every time you're annoyed by Berman- drink

Every time Morgan says something stupid- drink

drink twice every time Morgan mentions a Reds teammate.

Of course you may not see the 3rd batter.

You'd pass out by the time the second HR was hit...well, that might take a while with the crew we have this year.

Luckily, I will be missing it. My manager just called me and asked me to work till Ten.

He (being a pitcher) had 7 HR in 1 season . Even though he was with the Rockies (who play at Coors) its still amazing.

I think Carlos Lee will win it.

The worst, maybe Choi. He takes so many pitches that when he is forced to swing more freely in this contest he probably won't handle it well.

He's very strong but has so many holes.

Heh.

Talked about Derrek Lee's possibility of the Triple Crown. Then Harold Reynolds asked him how his shoulder was, which Lee responded that it was feeling good.

Then Renyolds asked Derrek, who he thinks will win the HR Derby. Derreck kidding around, saying that Carlos Lee will, becuase he's his cousin. Then he said, naw, I'm just kidding, but I do think Carlos will win it, becuase he has a good swing.

I was hoping to see Ichiro. From what I hear, he puts on quite a show in batting practice (and that's what the HR derby is). People are amazed at how many HRs and how far they go when he hits them. He changes his philosophy once the game starts. Wade Boggs used to do the same thing.

Ty Cobb was never known as a power hitter and whenever he was asked about it he would remark that he didn't hit home runs because he didn't want to hit homers, he thought it was a lazy mans way to score a run. When Ruth came along and hit his 60 homers in 1920, newspaper were all after Cobb telling him that he was jealous of Ruth because of his power. Well, as Al Stump put it in "Cobb": Cobb hit 5 straight homers, a record that stood for some time, just to put the journalists in their place. He then went back to hitting his merry little singles and drag bunts.

so the moral of the story is ty cobb was stupid?

Just put the batting practice pitcher in a cubs jersey and im sure Carlos Lee will win, he seems to kill cubs pitching every other time.

There ya go.

In other HR Derby news, Damon and Piazza are on stage with some random band.

That was incredibly cringe-worthy.

Watching that made me very uncomfortable.

Alter Bridge really sucks.

They sounded like Creed Lite, and that's not very good...

Anyone else sick of Berman yet? He was entertaining in the beginning when ESPN first came on the scene, now his schtick is just old and tired.
