I simply don't know what you do as a manager when the late game pitching is like this.

Even when you get solid starts and good performances from certain relievers (Civale), the implosion is always lurking right around the corner.

There is no right answer to managing this group.  This is a Jed Hoyer production and Counsell is suffering through it.

horsefeathers it, Bring up Steele, Cabrera and Miller tonight. They can't be any worse.

They could be worse.  Webb was the only one who sucked tonight.  But, I agree bring Cabrera and Miller up.

Why i have had little faith in this team come playoffs.

Cool they made it, but itll likely be bitter sweet to watch.

They basically will need 5+ runs from the bats, and even if they get 5+ good innings from the starters, there's very little confidence in this bullpen to hold a lead of 3 runs or less.

Develop any kind of pitching***

The Brewers continue to churn out pitching year in and year out. I don’t get it.

To be fair we developed Steele, we developed Horton, we developed Brown. They all just suffered multi-year long injuries while the Brewers guys make 30+ starts a year.  The pen is a problem and has been for several years though.

The Brewers hired a chemistry teacher with cancer to take the Cardinals pixie dust formula and make it 98% pure and now it’s pixie dust on steroids.

Until the playoffs.

Brewer chuds are bragging about winning the division year after year, but in 2023 and 2024, they flamed out in the first round, and last year they got smoked in the NLCS.

The starting rotation is a mess yet we got two really good starts today and yesterday.  It’s like, those guys have to be frustrated as hell too.  It’s not like Peterson sucked.  He did well and against a good offense too.  This bullpen is the worst pen I’ve ever seen.

In some corners they might call that progress.  But yeah, I’m definitely rooting against these punks forever and ever.

I would be interested to see a good angle of Shaw's read on the 10th inning pop-up.  It was really hard to tell on the TV replay, but that had to be his ball.

He got a slow start

5 of those losses by 1 run

3 of those losses by 2 runs

3 of those losses with a lead in the 9th and 2 outs

+27 RD during that stretch

They have had a lead in 16 of these 19 games and a 2+ run lead in 14 of the 19 games.

Nationals up 3-0 at least over SD. If they hang on the cushion stays at 5 games with 16 left (4+tiebreaker)

Nats pen might be worse than ours so plenty of time for them to blow it.

4-1 in the 8th now. I don’t see Webb or Palencia warming up at least

And of course the Padres have 2 on and 0 outs after some dude who has 3 MLB innings in his career walks the first 2 hitters.  Now the top of their order is up.

Bases loaded 0 outs after yet another walk.  Cubs might be down to a 3 (4) game lead due to another bullpen collapse

And the Padres have tied it.  Looking like a worst case scenario night with the Cubs losing and the Phillies, Diamondbacks and Padres winning.
