Huge game.  We hate the Cards and want to destroy them plus it’s a comeback game for a pitcher we need.

Need at least 5 good ones out of Cabrera today, the bullpen isn't exactly fresh.

itll basically be Thorton, Thielbar,  Rolison, and Webb today.

Bats gotta get 5+ today more than likely

Good to see Busch finally getting a day off, but makes me wonder if Ramirez was an option all along, why didn't they do this sooner

I think the only one not available today is Rea. Zeferjahn threw 27 pitches on Thursday, but that is all he has been used the last 4 days. And there is also Civale. Might not like the pen we have, but they are actually pretty well rested.

Peterson to the bullpen I guess

Per #Cubs Craig Counsell, David Peterson will be moved to the bullpen for the time being as Edward Cabrera gets reinserted into the rotation.

Zeferjahn pitched Friday, he and Civale would likely be a big IF needed case scenerio.

Is 411 MLB innings enough of a sample size to say that Assad is someone who exceeds his expected numbers?  How many MLB teams would love to have a player with this track record on their roster?  I really don't know why they love yo-yoing him like this.

Yes he has options and Colin Rea doesn't.  Fine, but while he's done an admirable job, I'd DFA Rea before I'd option Assad, but would love to hear opposing takes if there are any.

Edit: Forgot about Civale too.  Come on

I'd figure yesterday's game was going to be the "let so and so pitch, and then DFA him today for Cabrera." We've done that in the past, and the Nationals did that earlier this week with Mikolas. When I saw yesterday's box score, I was confused on who would be option/DFA for Cabrera, but I was surprised it was Assad even with the options.

I agree with you. Both Assad’s results and underlying numbers are better than some guys who’ve stayed on the roster.

I would assume that the thinking is Assad will be back in 2 weeks when the rosters expand.  So no need to launch a guy you can’t get back.
