That's how I feel too.  If someone goes down, it should be Kelly.  He's an interesting reclamation project or whatever but Assad is just a better pitcher at this point in time.

With Holmes and Guasman to add, I don't think it's one or the other. My guess is those are the two who will head to Iowa.

The Cubs are a very good baseball team right now and more help should be coming in the next week or so. They look like a team that can compete for the pennant.

I want to articulate this better.

  Javier Assad just peaked.  Tonight was the high point of his career thus far.  Now,  maybe he is dead inside and will feel nothing upon being told to go wait in AAA after tonight's performance , but I don't believe that to be the case. 

That clubhouse is also riding a high.  I think that matters.

If the Cubs win tomorrow, they would clinch the tiebreaker with the Dodgers for when the teams tie each other atop the NL standings at the end of the season.

I'm sure he'll be hit in the feels. He's an athlete. That will hurt. But I think he's a teammate and he understands that he's the next best rotation option on the team. Being in Iowa helps the team right now. And when he comes back, he'll bust ass again like he always done.

It probably doesn't from a numbers stand point with those 6 specifically. I do think they'll piggy Rea and Holmes for a start or two as he fully builds up. And when Cabrera comes up, I do think you can play some games there pushing starts off and moving them around a bit. 

But I also wonder just how much Cabrera will have been built up. He's missed a good chunk. He might become another bullpen guy where you use him as a supercharged 2-3 innings type and let him air it the hell out.

Gonna likely come down to the Jeckyll and Hyde bats in the postseason. 

They couldn't scratch 2-3 runs against the Yankees pitching and get 10 yesterday and 5 today off the Dodgers

Theyre gonna find themselves having a good problem to figure out when all these arms return and should build themselves up a pretty strong pitching staff for a solid September push against the Brewers and into the postseason.
