Wouldn't surprise if Hoyer doesn't add another SP..

Imanaga Boyd Gausman Peterson Rea/Assad and he has Cabrera returning in a couple weeks.

I can see him thinking he has his 5 with Cabrera, with Rea/Assad being his depth for the final month plus when Cabrera returns. 

He'll probably focus on a couple bullpen arms tomorrow

The Cubs are still in on SPs. Very much so. We might not get any single one done, but the two Seattle arms and the two LAA arms are still in play.

I hope so, but like I said it wouldn't surprise me if the focus tomorrow is just on the bullpen.

You don't have to hope; they're definitely still focused on a controlled SP. I cannot promise it'll happen, but they're still in on that. Part of the reason they got Gausman is to ensure that the controlled-SP teams cannot railroad them tomorrow. 

They're going to get a BP arm tomorrow for sure. But with the prospects they have left, they can basically make most of whatever they want tomorrow happen. I feel very good where they are.

Yeah , I liked where they are sitting right now . At worst , I think they get a couple of power arms for the pen .  With that said I think they get a SP with control and a reliever

Still betting on bat you haven't heard mentioned to the Cubs tomorrow in addition to 1 SP and a legit back end reliever.  At worst Kittredge is coming back , and no I don't count him as a back end arm.

Gausman's peripherals look good, pretty much the same as the last 2 years.  Has a bunch of playoff experience too, including WS vs Dodgers last year.  He'd be my Game 1 pitcher.

Would like one of the Angels SP but if he's it and they grab 2 really good relievers I'd be ok with that.

Same.  Lots of opportunity to still add.  We got a good SP without giving up a top 10 prospect.

Fangraphs show a small dip from 2025, but it’s still a tiny bit higher than 2024, and it’s basically in line with his career. Don’t see an issue there, unless it’s gotten a lot worse as the season has progressed. Haven’t looked at that yet.

Edit: Nope. 94.4 average mph each of his last 2 starts. Velo is fine,

Holmes/Weaver is probably the dividing line for me.  I'd be pretty happy about that, disappointed in the lack of 2027 impact but happy enough about what it does for this year to not be too terribly upset.

I do think Gausman has thankfully already closed most of the doors to a disaster deadline.  Gausman+two relievers is an adequate deadline.

Yeah, with Gausman in tow, you have solidified the playoff rotation enough that the team has addressed a big need. We know they will at least add some BP depth. Even an Andrew Kittredge reunion would help there, even if a little underwhelming. 

But going into today the floor of "it's an alright deadline" has been set and there remains a very strong ceiling for it, too. I'm cautiously optimistic.

I'm just getting flashbacks to last year about trying to trade for cost controlled pitching at the deadline and failing. So I'm kinda expecting them to end up with Holmes instead of Detmers or Soriano now.

Very well may be the case. I do think they're both set up better prospect wise and option wise than last year to get it done, but the very well might not. 

The biggest difference is in Soroka to Guasman. Gasuman is just a much higher floor so even if it is an off-season trade for the controller arm, the rest of the way is stronger if they end up with Holmes as the second SP.
