Random trade speculation

If we complete an Angels deal a trade with the Mets for Peralta or Holmes and then Weaver would be awesome. Get that right handed bat (Adell) in the Angels deal.

It's not impossible that it could happen, but probably notable that Alcantara is in the lineup but the other two aren't. 

Kade Snell not being in a lineup, though, could be a realistic third piece for a SP.

Same, the guy has had 2 TJ surgeries.  His arm is about to fall off.  They don't need another high risk injury prone arm in the rotation.

Sadly I think that value has more or less dried up unless it's for a mediocre pen arm on the last year of their deal

The Cubs have two open spots in the OF next year, and he would fit as a 4th or 5th OF'er as well. 

I think it's probably important to note that if you aren't comfortable with him being a bench player next year (which would make sense as to keeping him) that it's probably unlikely another team would want him very much. 

So either: the Cubs do have a reason to keep him (they envision a role for him) or no team, including the Cubs, want him meaning he probably doesn't have much trade value at that point.

True, but don’t the Cubs have to trade Alcantara? I mean he isn’t if options and doesn’t appear to be in CC circle of trust. I suppose he could go for a pen arm. But IMO he will not be in the Cubs organization after tomorrow.

The demand for right handed outfielders is pretty high . I suspect the Cubsxeoyhd have to go smaller than Adell to fill that need . Also Alcantara is in the lineup for Iowa . I am thinking someone like Alex Call maybe ?

Yeah I was only really envisioning him as a throw or used for a reliever like you said. It's a shame that we didn't trade him earlier when he had actual value.

He may not be. But it doesn't look like the Cubs are maybe as...concerned with him leaving today as they are the other two.

Soriano is 18th in MLB in innings since the start of last year, tied with Tarik Skubal and ahead of guys like Freddy Peralta, Dylan Cease, and Joe Ryan.

I don't like that he has two TJ's under his belt either but let's not go overboard.

Alcantara is absolutely the right sized trade piece to headline a deal for one of the rental SPs or frontline RPs.  Pretty comparable to Ayers and Kepley IMO.

So here's a fun thought: Clay Holmes has been a reliever for much of his career. Do you target Holmes as your second SP knowing that:
1. If Ben Brown or Edward Cabrera come back dominant in the rotation and can start you could realistically move him to the pen

2. If they don't you can use him as a fourth playoff SP

Yes. I just don't think he's involved in the other thing. He was not one of the names I heard. The two names I did hear are both out of the lineup.

We can read things into guys being in or out of the lineup but, especially with position players, anyone could be part of a trade at anytime.  Unless a deal is imminent, there's no real necessity to hold a minor league infielder or outfielder out of a game.
