Off topic but seeing some Schwarber mentions on X, etc. and Hoyer saying that was one of his biggest regrets.

Made me wonder if Hoyer ever even made Schwarber an offer to return this past offseason , definitely would of preferred having Schwarber (5/150) over Bregman (5/175).

Hindsight is 20/20The non tender was fine at the time.  No other team wanted to trade for him.  He was a 2 WAR player. The DH didn't exist yet.  The team had too many Ks.  They brought in Joc who was a better player at the time and struck out less.

He'd definitely be nice to have on this team now though.

Hoping Mo can improve his swing decisions in Iowa and help us in the 2nd half

Bregman doesn’t make any sense.  He’s very consistently been well above the average as a hitter and he’s just a guy now, almost 3 months in.  Yeah he’s changed leagues and I expected an adjustment period but not this long.  I don’t know how we can expect Jed to know this would happen.  He put up a 130 OPS+ last season and he’s at 99 as of now.  That 130 was his 4th best in a 10 year career.  He SHOULD be producing.  Whether you liked the signing or not it’s pretty bizarre how this has turned out.

Does changing leagues mean as much anymore with interleague play and scheduling now.

Bringing Schwarber back was my first choice,  would of been perfect with him as DH and just play Shaw at 3B.

I was surprised and ok with Bregman,  hes just been a major disappointment so far.

Talking about last offseason when he was a FA,  not when they non tendered him.

Craig was not happy pre-game. Apparently it didn't even end up raining last night.

He was on the other side of that in 2017. I remember they called it the Sun-out game. They called the game early in the day and it basically didn't rain. Brewers talked a gang of horsefeathers.

Hoyer said he regretted not signing Schwarber last offseason?

Id find that unlikely.  He's not going to publicly slag on Bregman like that

But the thought was Seiya was going to be the DH. Seiya was bad in the outfield. He has been really good this year, but that wasn’t the thought this past off season. Schwarber was not really a good fit. I was surprised by Bregman too, but he did make more sense. At the time they signed him the thought was Nico would play this year then Shaw wouldntske over 2nd. Even after Nico signed an extension, Shaw could have been traded or be a utility player. I was hoping he would be traded for a pitcher. With the advantage of hindsight it is easy to say they should have signed Schwarber instead. But at the time Bregman make more sense. He just hasn’t played well.

No, he regretted letting him go but my post was about signing him over Bregman last offseason and if Hoyer who has that regret, had made him an offer or not

The Cubs made Senga look really good in the 1st inning.  He actually looks good.  Definitely, doesn't look like a 9.00 ERA pitcher.

I think that while he regretted letting him go, the Cubs never had any intention of signing him this off season. I would say they never even talked to him.

Cabrera looked good in the first inning. Wasn’t he doing well his last start when his hand cramped up. I feel he went 9 up and 9 down through 3. Hope he is figuring it out.

I don't remember if it was 9 up and 9 down, but his first 3 inning was very good last time.  Today, so far, he's looking sharp, too.
