He was amplifying far right lies.

My comment was not just about the latest incident. This has become a place where half the country is made to feel uncomfortable, Matt Shaw is called awful names, and one side of the political spectrum is given free reign to be as offensive as they want. I've avoided the political forum and tried to talk baseball. Most conservatives would view me as pretty liberal. I pastor a church with a medical clinic that caters to people without documentation.

But the extreme liberal vitriol here is just too much, and the mods have stopped caring.

Don’t let it get to right or left.

pretty easy… if it’s not baseball and Matt Shaw delete it.

That's all I'm asking.

I've been here 20 years, and I've seen so many people get away with so much. This place has devolved into a liberal echo chamber where one sided political discussion is welcomed and saying extremely offensive things against anyone suggesting a moderate or conservative opinion is celebrated.

That dude was responding to people who came after him and called him names. I haven't always agreed with him, but you banned the wrong person.

So the guy lying about the man who was murdered and more or less saying he deserved it based on that lie is blameless here, but the people who called him on his horsefeathers are at fault?

It doesn't work like that. You don't get to antagonize people, try and dictate the terms, and then cry wolf when someone doesn't agree with your handwaving.

The general atmosphere here is constantly antagonizing. I need to shut up before I get baited into my own ban.

Reality is not a liberal echo chamber. Get out of your right wing bubble and join reality, or accept that people will view you as the ignorant fool you are, and at best you'll be ignored and at worst you'll have to cry back to your right wing echo chambers to feel like real men again.

It sounds like you do admirable work. Thank you for that.

I understand the frustration with politics talk bleeding into the baseball threads. Unfortunately, Matt Shaw has positioned himself as a political personality by speaking at conservative events alongside some very controversial figures. While some here have been able to draw a line between Matt Shaw the baseball player and Matt Shaw, TPUSA speaker and personal friend to a man who got rich and built a huge following targeting marginalized groups, you’ll be hard pressed to get everyone on this board to do that.

Anyway, today is the day you decided to put your foot down, when thawv spewed blatant lies about a man who was murdered on the sidewalk by an ICE agent after being pepper sprayed and beat in the head with what appeared to be a pistol. I understand your broad point and you’ve been a good poster here for as long as this board has been around. The discussion of the murder by ICE doesn’t need to happen in this thread, but thaw’s comments were truly gross. Whether he believes the lies he was parroting or not, they have no place here. I will always call that horsefeathers out.

For the record, I don’t like Matt Shaw for obvious reasons. But my inclination to trade him is for baseball reasons. I’d love to see them capitalize on his recent top prospects status and bring in a pitching prospect and then extend Hoerner. Love Nico’s game and I’m not ready to see him go.

The Republican government has murdered two people in the last month for peacefully protesting and then shamelessly lied about the facts and circumstances of what happened and not a single person has faced any repercussions for their involvement in these events.

but I’m sorry you feel uncomfortable on a message board

Forget this echo chamber. You should all be deeply disturbed that the President of our country has been sending out constant, legitimate, war cries to all of the racist hate-mongers in the nation and has given many of them free reign and a very well paying career to brutalize and murder people who dont agree with his less-than-half-baked politics. Take issue with that. This division is because of him!

if this is truly how you feel, go pool your money with the rest of the charlie kirk and ICE apologists and create your own cubs messageboard.

I agree with everything you said here. While I personally do not like Shaw for obvious reasons, I do not want to trade him because of his views. I want to trade him to get a good young pitcher, and then resign Nico. If they don’t get equal return I am fine with them keeping him.

People: upset because masked, government sponsored groups who are going around and taking people off the street shot a person who was protesting these events and blamed it on the fact that the person was carrying a legally permitted handgun

idiots: look at this extreme liberal vitriol

I think Matt Shaw positional versatility will be important to the Cubs success. The more position he can play, the better.

Rengifo played 6 positions last year and from 22-24 was a plus bat. He was down a little last year. If the Cubs traded Shaw I would be fine with Rengifo as the utility guy. Shaw isn’t some unicorn who is the only person who could be a good utility player. And if he brings you good value back, that helps them after this season too.

I'm willing to give Shaw another (full) season to see if he's more than a utility guy.  The offensive strides he made from the first half to the second were tremendous for a first-year player. And he was supposed to be an average, maybe even below-average fielder going into last season.  He's clearly a plus fielder, near GG caliber.

That said, I love Noco and would like the Cubs to extend him.  And I'd rather wait to see what improvements at the plate Shaw might have.

There's probably not a lot of harm in letting him try in the spring, but for me it's a longshot that it'll be needed.  If Austin fails then that role (and roster spot) would seem to have Jonny Long's name on it.  So for Shaw to get run there you basically need Austin to fail, Long to fail, AND Busch's late season progress against lefties to not carry over.

I forgot about Long.  But I'm actually not advocating for Shaw to be counted on to play 1B with any regularity.  I think, given his defensive athleticism, it might be a bad idea for him to have a "broken in" 1B glove.  Like you said, there's probably not a lot of harm in letting him try in the spring.
