Drafting WR in the first round simply because of trading Moore seems like a lazy take to me.  Maybe it will happen, I don’t know.  But sitting here right now, it sounds like someone who saw DJ’s big catch to slay the Packers and not looking any deeper into the Bears roster.

Who is suggesting that we do? Certainly not me.

This conversation started because there are mocks that have the bears taking a WR

Thank you for clarifying that.

I am fine with the Bears taking a WR with one of their 2nd rounders but the first round is too greedy IMO.

Gotta go DL, S or Proctor if he falls to 25 IMO.

This mock has Bears going Safety, Safety, WR with their first three picks. If this happens,  Poles should be immediately fired.

That is a strange mock. I don’t see that at all. There are a few edge rushers and an OT taken right after the Bears mock 60th pick. I would imagine any of those would make more sense than a receiver and another safety. TBH, I would like to see the Bears trade down on their first pick and gain more draft capital. There are guys listed into the high 30’s that, IMO, are the same guys the Bears are considering at 25. Trade down and they still might get an edge rusher or OT they are considering at 25. Then in rd 2 (pick 57 or 60)maybe that safety does make sense. With the extra pick they can probably get a WR or RB. 57 and 60 can be safely and either an edge or OT(depending on what they take with their eventual first pick.

I’m not suggesting we draft him but I also don’t understand why you think the WR room would be pissed if we did. We lost DJ Moore from last season and there didn’t seem to be any issues when he was still on the team.

I wasn’t implying that you were suggesting it. But beyond Romes father being a mouth piece for Rome and DJ not consistently engaged on every play unless he knew was  getting the ball, clearly they weren’t satisfied with their targets. You also have 3 guys on rookie contracts looking for a pay day. In order to get paid you need the stats and receptions. Unless Peyton manning is your quarterback who can feed everyone, you’ll have a group of unhappy receivers given their draft position and or pedigree in DJs case.

They’d basically have to not be sold on Rome, plus the board absolutely sucks with a can’t miss receiving talent there at 25 for that to happen.

Given this year's draft pool, if the Bears, at 25, trade down, it would be into the 2nd-4th Rds, correct?  Maybe, not such a bad idea, the player they'll get at 25 won't be much different than those available in the 2nd, 3rd or 4th.  Could the pick at 25 get, say, a 2nd and a 4th? If so, address the DL need with the highest 2nd, then look at some combination of DB, DL, OL-T/G, OL-C, LB, RB and WR with the remaining picks - think that makes a total of 8 picks.

All of this trade down talk is great, but with the board the way it is, who's looking to trade up?  Unless Ty Simpson is still there at 25 and AZ or NYJ want back into the first to get the 5th year option on him, I don't really see a scenario where there's a good partner to match up with on a trade back.

Thought of that as well, who might be looking to trade up?  Appears the Packers, Falcons, Jaguars, Broncos, Colts and Bengals are without a 1st, Packers won't be interested in trading with the Bears.  Might the remaining teams be looking to get back into the first round?  Guess, that depends on their boards and the way the draft falls.

I can't shake the feeling that the Bears might trade up if someone they like slides to the right spot.  Yes, there are a bunch of positions that need to be filled, but if Downs (somehow) falls to 11, do the Bears call the Dolphins?  What if Fano slides into the 18-20 range?

I know, I know, "there's no way X will slide past # pick," "the Bears wouldn't be interested in X player," and "that team would *never* trade their pick if X is available."  But the draft is stupid, guys fall all the time for dumb reasons, and teams might be more willing to make a deal than they let on.

Is there anyone in this draft you'd want the Bears to trade up for?

Based on what Matt Miller said to Bernstein on his podcast, probably not.  This is just a bad draft and even the top guys at their positions would rate behind the top guys in the last 2 drafts.  There's just not good top end talent level available. Now, if the cost of trading up is something completely reasonable because of that, yeah, maybe you consider it, but I'd be very surprised if that happens.

It’s Kiper but I love the sound of this. Hopefully we can get one of these quality centers late in the draft.

Matt Miller says Hecht is the best guy and a slightly slower version of Linderbaum.  I'd love to see the Bears grab him if he's available at 89, but that's probably a little low for him.
