This entire process has been so indicative of the inequality of our society. The Bears and the NFL can pay for the stadium with cash if they want. It's not a one-time payment. Building costs are incremental with the work completed. Or the Bears could get a loan from the NFL and finance it. They don't even need to go outside of the league. Instead, they want the people to pay for it. It's all horsefeathers.

You're spot on. The last thing the NFL wants is for a team to set a precedent by having to finance it's own stadium. That would prompt other cities who have teams to say... "Hey... they did it without government subsidies... why can't you?"

The Bears did not do themselves any favors the way they lobbied for a new stadium. And now they... especially Kevin Warren... look like fools.

And I'm OK with that!

Career criminal, shouldn't have resisted, was high, etc. etc. The usual horsefeathers that people say to diminish that the cops killed him.

Ding ding ding.

The comments were basically about how Chicago burned down in the riots and roving gangs of kids were looting Indiana towns because a cop was doing his job.

Dope

As much as I can't stand Warren or the McCaskeys in all this, Brandon Johnson has been the abject worst person in these negotiations.  It's mind-boggling that someone that stupid is the mayor.  Say what you will about Lori, Rahm, and Daley, they ranged from bureaucratically overmatched to outright corrupt, but they weren't dumb.

Yeah man. It sucks that "too stupid to be corrupt" is the best Chicago can hope for

Well, the mayor isn't going anywhere.  But they can show Warren the door.  I feel like that's really where the Bears have to end up here.  I don't see any way around it unless they really are ok with going to Hammond.

Bernstein absolutely torched Warren on his podcast yesterday and deservedly so.  He's completely horsefeathered this whole thing up and as Dan says, he's basically been running a con that's come to a head and there's nothing to do now but get rid of him.  The fact that he didn't listen to all the consultants he hired and hasn't been in Springfield to manage this and try to get votes is inexcusable and the peak of incompetence.

He probably had to be at Caleb's Madden photo shot

For many people who go to Bears games Hammond is just as close to them as Arlington Heights. If Illinois can’t get it done, who cares if they play in Hammond. No different than the Giants in New Jersey. Sucks it can’t get done in Illinois but they are still then Chicago Bears.

Well most of the fanbase and season ticket holders reside closer to AH.

George and family can horsefeathers themselves

The toxic tort litigation involving this stadium is going to be phenomenal.

Yeah, that's the part that really gives me pause.  Getting clearance to build on that site from an environmental perspective and taking on the risk of exposing millions of people to whatever might be buried there over the next 30-40 years just feels like a huge stretch.

i do have to say i'm impressed at how much bad blood the Bears organization has manufactured over something as silly and inconsequential as building a stadium. They've almost perfectly managed to look as stupid, craven and greedy as possible. Bravo.

Incompetence can certainly make you appear to be all those things.

We don’t have an EPA. There will be no repercussions for companies that kill in the near future.
