I'm not sure why Salah would get another bite of the apple after his stint with NYJ.  Especially so soon.

Because the Jets are an absolute trash organization and it's hard to hold failing there against anyone.

Jon-Eric Sullivan was just hired about 10 days ago as the Dolphins new GM. He had previously been in the Packers org since 2004. He was mostly a scout, Director of Scouting, then Director of Player Personnel, and finally VP of Layer Personnel.  So he's pretty familiar with Hafley, and this is really no surprise to Packers fans.

Will be interesting to see who replaces him.  Have heard Raheem Morris and LaFleur are very good friends, going way back. But I wouldn't be surprised if they take an internal promotion like Demarcus Cousins or Derrick Ansley. Both are previous Def Coordinators in the league.

What's your take on Hafley's ability to be a HC?  I'm looking at his career right now.  It's rather long, almost exclusively as a position coach, and his stint at Boston College as head coach was short and not good.

Personally, I think having Micah Parsons would make any defensive coordinator look pretty damn good.

RE: Bills/Broncos

I didn't think it was a catch and the interception was the right call, but if the refs are going to call those garbage DPIs against the Bills, there was definitely DPI on that play by the Broncos.  Allen has to make a better throw there, but the receiver got wrapped up before the ball got there and it was a textbook call that the refs can't miss.

OK but it's still a crappy tenure and he looked like a clown trying to coach his team when Rodgers came in.  To say he was overshadowed by his QB as a coach is being generous.

Yeah, from 2006 - 2018 in the pros, he was only able to muster lateral moves as a defensive backs coach through several organizations.  That's an awful lot of people who didn't see much in him.

I'm aware I'm trashing the guy.  Maybe he turns out to be incredible.

Because NFL coaches always fail upwards

I'm not really certain how he'll do. A lot, like any HC in the NFL, will depend on the personnel he has to work with. I'm not a "press conference watcher", so I don't have much insight from the in-season midweek assistants' pressers. But he did take over a pretty floundering defense over the previous several years and had them playing at a high level in 2025. And that was before they acquired Parsons. Yhe defense was even better this season....until the Parsons injury. And that seemed to torpedo not just the defense, but the season as a whole.

As mentioned in my previous post, Hafley coached the Packers defense in 2024, the year before Parsons, and the defense was greatly improved from previous years (Joe Barry was a disaster). They were a top 10 team in many defensive metrics (points allowed, yards allowed, TOs, drives ending in scores %, etc).

Don't know how he'll be as a HC, but he seemed to be a really good DC.

Looking from the start of Salah's second year:

2022:  7-10, 4th fewest points allowed.  Zach Wilson went 5-4, Mike White went 1-3, Flacco went 1-3.
2023:  7-10, 12th fewest points allowed.  Zach Wilson went 5-7 (counting the game Rodgers went out after 2 plays), Trevor Simian went 2-1, Tim Boyle went 0-2
2024:  They were 2-3 with Rodgers when Salah was fired.  The Jets defense was allowing 17 points and 256 yards per game.  They went 3-9 the rest of the year and the defense allowed 26 points and 349 yards per game.
2025:  Jets hired a defensive coach so the defense went back to being good?  Not exactly.  31st on defense and a 3-14 record.  And while the defense traded away multiple of their best players midseason, they were really bad before that as well.

Salah hasn't proven he can guide a functional offense so I have no idea if he will succeed as a head coach.  I find the fit in TN strange with a young QB.  But the Jets won more games under him they had any right to because he seems to be a great defensive coach.  The Jets immediately were a completely different defense the moment he left.

Terry Pegula and Brandon Beane are putting on a masterclass in how not to talk to the media right now. Buffalo is so cooked.

I have listened to a lot of his press conferences.  He's WAY more honest and insightful than almost any coach I've seen in that setting.  He's just sincere and likeable and comes off as pretty sharp.  So yeah, I think he has the right temperament to be a head coach...but imo, his performance this year a D coordinator was abysmal.  All of those defensive metrics should have been expected with the Packers 2025 roster.  And game outcomes (namely, coughing up games with nearly insurmountable leads) happened too often to just be bad luck.  I was mildly surprised he was offered the position.

I'm watching this AFC champ game thinking to myself if DJ just runs the right route in OT the Bears are the second best team in this championship week.

They literally can't play. Everyone is just slipping and tripping and sliding around.

It’s marvelous.  I know indoors mega stadiums will be everywhere eventually but I love terrible weather football.

This Patriot has got to be one of the weaker Super Bowl representatives in recent memory.

Yeah, but it would have been depressing in my opinion if Denver had made it with that QB at the helm.

Not like the NE offense has inspired much confidence in the playoffs. But yeah, Maye is obviously way better than Stidham.
