this is wild:

That would entail half the Forte era, all of Howard and Montgomery (not to mention Fields)

I guess 3 of the top ten in that isn’t that big of a deal. I’m sure none of them occurred in 2024, 2023, 2022. The bears leading rusher eclipsed 1,000 yards in maybe half the past 12 seasons.

On Dan Bernstein's podcast they mentioned that last year (all of last year) they had only 20 big pass plays (20+ yards), this year they've already surpassed that in 6 games. Wild.

Matt Abbattacola also intimated what I suspected, that they're specifically coaching Caleb to not scramble for yards but look for big plays downfield. Now, I dunno how much credence you give him ("people I've talked to" ok, who's that?), but it certainly looks that way, and is appropriately awkward. He just isn't doing the things that come naturally to him. And if that's the case, I'd say, stop it. He's historically been more effective when he's just feeling it on the scramble, and he is quite nifty with his legs. He doesn't generally take big shots (though obviously its a concern long term).

I'm less worried about what Caleb is doing while scrambling than what he's doing in the pocket, in rhythm.

On the other hand, Ben Johnson is 1000000% a smarter, more qualified offensive genius than me. So I should probably just put my faith in him, no matter how bleh it may look in the early term.

How many of these big plays are yards after the catch? I can’t remember many long pass plays that weren’t the result of a broken defensive play.

That's the design of the offense though, so I'm not sure what the gripe could be.  Get a guy the ball in space and let him run.  It's more efficient and significantly reduces the margin for error vs throwing the ball long.

Surely you mean “the result of the Bears breaking their defense.”

Reports are suggesting that Lamar's status on Sunday is definitely in question.

The Bears have actually never faced Lamar Jackson.  The last time the teams played Tyler Huntley started and beat the Bears.

Point spread has dropped to Ravens -6

I did not know the Bears haven't faced him.  Obviously a 100% healthy Lamar decreases the chances of winning, but it would be a step forward for the Bears to beat a quality opponent like that.

If he's out the Bears are definitely experiencing a blessed season like 2001. And hell, I'm here for it.

FWIW since I was starting the rumor train, Lamar apparently did practice today.  Not sure if limited or full.  I would think given their current position and a very winnable division they will do everything possible to get him on the field as soon as safely possible.

Also Baltimore plays next Thursday on a short week, maybe ramping him up for that

On the other hand, they lose to the Bears their season is just about cooked at 1-6

Gordon OUT(WTF???)

Stevenson OUT

Kmet OUT

What happened to Kyler Gordon?

Also Swift is questionable

Good thing I will be on vacation and will miss the game .v. Ravens. It looks like the only way the Bears can win this game is if Caleb and the offense balls out and puts up a lot of points.
