We have a nice team. Imagine Steele and Horton in the rotation tho

Yeah, that's what I've been lamenting to all my Tiger fan buddies here in Michigan. They had no idea our two best starters are out.

I dunno if pitching him on short rest is ideal considering his signs of wear and tear and the fact that he’s pitched over 100 innings more than he has in any of the last 3 seasons.

I doubt Boyd starts on short rest. It could be Assad, Soroka or Rea. Would be karma if they went Civale and he shut the Brewers down. Relax…… I don’t want Civeli. They are only playing 2 games on Sunday because they don’t want to go against the NFL with 4 games. The days off do set up nice. Basically the Cubs can most likely use anyone they want from the pen every game. What got lost in all the slobbering by the announcers of the Padres pen was the Cubs pen was pretty damn good as well.

You are right...our pen has been so good all year, especially considering some of the older journeymen in there. That said, Miller hitting 104.5 mph was sick but at the same time memorable. Great series.

I feel like Boyd gets the start Saturday TBH. Had a short outing in game 1

I'm 99.9% sure its not going to be Boyd.

Rea 67% or Asad 32% or me, then Boyd

I'm with you, doubt Boyd will go on short rest. Rea over Assad for me and I like them both quite a bit. I know they are bottom of the rotation guys but they both know how to pitch. Rea is a vet and I thought he's thrown the ball real well the last month or so after lagging mid season. He also has a history with Counsell and he trusts him.

My 12 year old son was spent by the end of the 9th inning tonight.

We had to explain to him what 2016 was like... pretty much that same level of stress, but almost every night for an entire month.

Let's do that again.

I would not rule out Soroka. I think Assad most likely (40%) then Rea and Soroka (30%)

This is why I was questioning why Craig pitched Rea in Game 2 with the Cubs down 3 runs late and the bats doing nothing.  Obviously the focus is always first on winning and advancing but I think it would have been a calculated risk to pitch someone else and have Rea completely fresh for Game 1 (or if needed Game 3 today).  As it is, he threw 15 pitches plus his warmup, probably equates to his bullpen day essentially.

This is going to sound strange. I didn’t get into the wildcard series at all. I almost treated it almost like a regular season series and even in the 9th inning tonight I felt strangely calm about everything.

I know I will be right into the NLDS, but yeah. The series against the Padres felt like I was going through the motions.

Meh, not a fan of Soroka starting over either of those guys but I suppose it's possible. If either struggles early, he could be a guy CC goes to outta the pen.

Let's do that again.

Basically the same situation with my 9 year old son. He was up 2-3 times a night, plus with the games going late i was averaging about 3 hours sleep a night for a month lol.

I would love to do something like that again

My 9 year olds were watching with me. One of them is like my clone and sure enough at the end he was saying “they’re gonna blow it” repeatedly. 😂

Looking way ahead to possible WS match ups.  Cubs would have HFA vs Detroit and Seattle but not Toronto or NYY.

We have a Disney trip planned that lines up almost exactly with the World Series.  My ONLY chance of attending a game would be Game 1 if the Cubs are at home, so I'll be rooting hard for the winner of Seattle/Detroit.

I think my wife is secretly hoping the Cubs lose so it doesn't hijack our focus at Disney, but she won't admit that.  I can't say I didn't warn her.

We were remodeling our home during that time. I had one 9x9 office with a couch and a tv in the room. It was the only room not under construction. It didn’t have a clock. But, yes, I didn’t get much sleep that year. I now live in Arizona, so games end early. Love  live sports on Pacific time.

So how does this work with Cade Horton?  Let's just say hypothetically he is feeling good and able to come back for Game 5.  The Cubs can't just activate him for Game 5, can they?  Wouldn't there have to be a corresponding injury for him to replace?

Yes, he could only replace an injured player. And that injured player couldn’t play in the next series. I doubt Horton comes back at all. But even if he did, I think the Cubs have to win this series without him.

For pitching, the schedule with three off days between games one and five, gives Counsell a lot of options.

Boyd had less than sixty pitches in game one, so he can go two or three innings on Saturday; so can Rea. Then Counsell can juggle them for games four and five anyway he likes. He can also pitch the heck out of the bullpen. All the relievers can pitch four games with no problems.

I kind of get that. Im not saying I was indifferent about it, but I would say I would have not thought the season a success if they lost. Now I think the Cubs are playing with house money

I was pretty chill Game 1 and 2. Today with the early lead I started getting nervous because advancing to the NLDS and facing the Brewers started to feel real.
