Hope the Reds win, this could be a game were the Cubs could hurt the Mets.  Come on Cubs, just once, kick the Mets in balls, a little payback for 1969, that horsefeathers Victor Diaz HR in 2004 and the 2015 NLCS.

Just spitballing here, could Soroka be an option as well?

Good call.  Realistically it will probably be a 2 headed monster approach, with them hoping they can get 5-6 quality innings from some combo of Assad/Rea/Soroka

Guessing, what I think we will see, in a longer, 5 game set is this:

Shota, Boyd and Taillon will be afforded slightly longer rope, think 5, maybe six innings, where as a fourth game will be started by Rea/Assad/Civale types but will be used in short stints - 2-3 innings max.

So, sure, Rea or Assad (these two are most likely) will "start" but these will be largely bullpen days.

We kind of got revenge for 2004 in 2008.  The Cubs had already clinched the number 1 seed and went to Shea Stadium in its last year and split a series with the Mets the final week of the season.  The Mets ended up missing the playoffs by 1 game.

Also lost to the Brewers a couple of times the last weekend of the season to help facilitate the Mets' collapse. Which ended up screwing us in the end because we drew the hotter-than-the-surface-of-the-sun Mannywood Dodgers. That made me mad even as it was happening because the free-falling Mets were so obviously a better matchup.

While it didn't work out, Monday's game is a good blueprint.  One of the long guys, probably Rea, for 3 innings/once through the order.  Soroka for two, and then shift to the short relievers.

Maybe have one of the lefties go an inning-ish between Rea/Soroka depending on where in the lineup they are.

Not enough, I want some more Mets pain at the hands of the Cubs.

Oh yeah I forgot about the rule that you couldn't play your own division in the NLDS back then.  That was so annoying in situations like that.

Lodolo left the game for the Reds with a groin related concern, that's not good for the Reds.  Groin stuff almost never turns out to be a short term injury.

I heard it was a move solely made out of precaution.

Sounds like Horton is still on track for next week and will throw tomorrow..... Doesn't sound like we will know anything until after he throws and responds the next day.

I'm going to guess that they try a cortisone shot or whatever, tape him up, and see if he can handle the pain while maintaining his concentration.

Yeah.  You hear all the time "if this was the playoffs I'd be out there!", and I suspect this is one of those where if it wasn't the playoffs he'd be put on the IL out of caution.

If there is one guy in the organization who I feel confident would run through a brick wall, It's Horton. So as much as I wish he wasn't hurt, I think he's going to have one of the best chances to mentally force himself through it.

Don’t forget Craig horsefeathers Brazile in 2008.
