At the end of the day, this is the Cubs.   1984, up 2 convincingly on San Diego, couldn't win another one.  2003 fiasco.  Other than 2016, they have always found ways to drive their fans insane.   Younger folks should be prepared for the worst, because it's likely to happen.

My motto as a Cubs fan - expect the worst, hope for the best.

I will note the Brewers got 3, yes 3 hits, off the corpse of Erik Fedde yesterday.  Still insist they're no offensive juggernaut, not that it really matters with the way the Cubs continue to not hit.

They aren’t an offensive juggernaut but they’re solid. T9th in OPS+ and 10th in wRC+.  Of their top 9 hitters, they have 1 with an OPS above .800 and it’s .801 but they’ve only got 1 below .700.

Pitching wise, you have to get to their 10th pitchier in IP before you get a guy with an ERA over 3.6 and you have to get to their 16th guy before you reach a second one. For the Cubs, after Boyd, our 2 and 3 guys in IP have ERA’s over 4 and our 4th guy has an ERA over 6.

Obviously you’re not going to win many games getting 3 hits, but they also don’t need to hit that well to win games when they pitch as well as they do.

All solid, the Brewers down fall in the playoffs will be they usually need multiple hits to score.  Sure, Collins, as he did yesterday, can hit a 3R HR off Fedde. Not certain he'll be able to do likewise off the likes of Wheeler, Senga, etc. nor, is it likely they be able string together multiple hits against those types of starters.  But, anyways, screw the Brewers, time for the Cubs to start playing better.

The Cubs lost playoff series 41 and 22 years ago, and as such you should remain eternally mopey and pessimistic. No other team loses playoff series.

Also - they're cursed...except for the one year that they randomly weren't

And they broke the fuckting universe by winning, and here we are dealing with the horsefeathers.

They need to restore the universe by winning again and then not again until after I'm dead.

We did have a fun week back in 2016,  until the universe broke.

Sidebar, I was asked if the Cubs lost the WS in ‘16 but the next week there was a better result and the universe didn’t break which would I have rather happened. Hate to say it, but if I had it my way the Cubs would be in year 117 without a WS.

I really think we all should just stop worrying about the Brewers. They are going to do what they do. We just need the Cubs to play better ball. What is strange about this is that even playing poorly for 2 months they are 27-25 or something like that. Never really  long winning or losing streak. Because of a good start, even playing to that pace the rest of the year will get them in the playoffs. Probably won’t win the division, but still in the playoffs. And still a 90-92 win team. Which I am pretty sure we would have all been happy with at the start of the season. The problem is that now they have to have Boyd and Horton pitch all year. If they can I still think our top 3 pitchers (Horton being one of them) can compete with any other teams. The issue is, I don’t know how Boyd and Horton can hold all season. I think if the Cubs are several games up in the WC and only a few out of the division lead late in the season, you still might see Boyd and Horton skipped or pushed back to lessen their load. I think the Cubs might need to start focusing on who can pitch in the playoffs rather than worry about winning the division. They need to thread the needle between health of their pitchers and winning enough games to make the playoffs.

Right, if the cubs play 500 ball the last 50, they'll win 90 games, or if they play 600 ball they'll win 95 games.

If the Brewers end up winning more then 95 games then just tip your cap to them as they had an awesome final 4 months of season.
