No Busch today? Cubs are second in the national league in wRC+ vs left handed pitchers so there should be no problem scoring at least a few runs off of Fried today to make up for last nights shut out

Go Mathew Boyd.

I mean, they were shut out by a lefty last night, so maybe some PTSD?

I’ve been assured there’s nothing to see here and my eyes are deceiving me with that second ranked NL wRC+ vs left handed pitchers. Don’t know if I can find a stat that separates from starters from relievers though. If true, no reason they won’t get to Fried.

Back-to-back all star caliber lefties is significant

My guess is that Shaw will sit tomorrow too. A full week reset.

Have a keen eye next week after the ASB and see what's new with his swing. Guarantee there will be another change.

It is. With a 3.3 ERA going into yesterday’s game you’d think 2-3 runs in 6 innings would be a reasonable expectation with this offense. He allowed 11 runs in his last 22 innings as well. Hopefully Boyd can keep them in the game today.

That lineup inspires no confidence, specifically the lower 1/3....woof. Kelly hitting cleanup? WTH......

Kelly doesn’t press nearly as much with RISP, CC is probably going back to what worked, albeit that’s when Kelly was mashing 2 months ago.

Any word on Ben Brown? Is he at least trying to develop a changeup?

He didn't throw a single changeup in his last appearance. What he's doing on the side and what he is doing in a game, however, are not mutually exclusive, though.

It was his first Iowa appearance for two weeks since sent down. Likely just working back int things.

Wicks to Iowa, Brooks Kriske has been selected and added to the 40.

What's the book on Kriske JR? Heard the name but not familiar with him or his arsenal.

TIA

Fastball-slider-splitter mix. Stuff+ has the slider as his best offering. Generated great whiff in Iowa, but is 31. Sits 93-95mph on the fastball. Nothing special, but should eat a few innings and you'd be able to DFA him without much concern if it doesn't work.

Give the Cubs credit, they were so epic in April vs LHP, against the likes of Patrick Corbin and Eduardo Rodriguez, that it's made people numb to the last 5-6 weeks.

I wonder what their splits are for starters vs relievers.

I've gone back to May 24 so far and looked at vs. left-handed starters, and I've got 17 runs in 95.2 innings for a 1.60 ERA

87 wRC+ against all LHP since that 5/24 date.  But 100 over the last month, so clearly a dip and then improvement.
