I don't understand why they would rather have a challenge system instead of an automatic system. The challenges will just slow things down.

Because MLB bends over for the umpire's union

I don't think it'll slow things down as you think. Today's TOG vs Detroit was 2:17. That's what MLB wants.

I'll say it.  Baseball games are too short now!

When I go to a game, I don't want to be in and out in just over 2 hours.

Also, it used to be if it was 11:30 at night and I was looking for something to watch on TV for awhile before bed, I could almost always catch a few innings of a west coast game.  Now I don't even check anymore because the games are over in 2.5 hours or less.

BS, Tigers are not significantly better, if they're better at all, Cubs, with any amount of luck, could have just as easily taken two of three.  They're were several plays made by Tigers they don't make again.

It's 3 games in June, there's really nothing to take from it.  If the Cubs won all 3 games by 8 runs wed be more excited but it'd be the same conclusion drawn from it.

It was a good but frustrating series against a very good Tigers team on the road. Wish we had taken the series but it is what it is. Onto the next one.

Exactly. Nothing that happened here will have any bearing on these two teams if we are lucky enough to meet them in the WS. Tigers made some big plays in the series and the Cubs came up short a few times. But losing this series is not a statement that the Tigers are better than the Cubs.

You do know it is ok to sometimes give the other team credit, right? Tigers played with the same umpires. They made a lot of good plays and beat the Cubs. Doesn’t mean they are better. Just means they were better today. I believe Happ was safe at home. But if Carpenter doesn’t put that ball right in the money it isn’t even a discussion. Cubs had a few chances to make good plays and didn’t do it. Just tip your hat to the victor and move on. I didn’t see anything that would tell me the Cubs can’t beat the Tigers. But they need to play a cleaner game. Tigers do not scare me at all. But I have to give them credit, they played well and deserved to win the series.

They do deserve credit for playing well.  Other than Skubal there's nothing scary about them, very beatable should the Cubs meet them again.

3 challenges per team in minor leagues I believe. If they win, they keep that challenge. The AAA game I went to only had like 4-5 challenges throughout the game, and I believe only 1 of them was overturned.

Managers are going to have to make sure some of their players don't waste challenges early, as we seen at times now when they point to dugout right away and want a play challenged and it wasn't close.

I agree with this.

Should have signed Flaherty.

And Kahnle instead of Pressly would have been nice too.

Agree on Flaherty, don't know if I'm sold on Kahnle, he's been fantastic over 27+ innings, maybe over performing a bit.  There's a real good chance he regresses over the next 20 or so innings.

Who is the scary pitcher on the Cubs?

Cubs don’t win because of a scary pitcher. They win with a great line up and solid pitching. Sure, right now they don’t have that ace pitcher. And they probbaly will not when the playoffs start. But they can beat any scary pitcher in baseball. And a number of their pitchers can pitch a good game and hold a good line up down.

Go beat the Phillies now

It'd be real nice if the Cubs could return the favor to them by taking two of three.  Last time the Phillies came in having lost four in row before righting the ship vs Cubs.  Is Harper out? If so, I like the Cubs chances to win the series.

Harper is in the line up.

That's all it takes, because of the Cubs' strength in their line up they do have some margin for error.  Tigers don't have that, Dodgers certainly do, Padres, Mets, Phillies and should they make it, the Diamondbacks, as well.

In October I’d take the scary pitcher over the scary lineup.

I think the Cubs need to go big at the TD.

The last time he had an ERA over 3 Covid didn't exist. Granted theres been some time missed but he has a much longer and stronger track record than this season.

I guess we could go back and forth, on one hand said scary pitcher can't pitch every inning.  He can pitch multiple times in a series to great effect.  On the other, scary line up plays every inning and gets many more chances than scary pitcher.  Then, there's the randomness of playoff baseball, who knows, maybe Cubs' pitching staff catches lightning in a bottle and shuts everyone down while their line up does just enough to win.  Or Skubal, after a long season and a plethora of innings, tires a little and gets crushed.

Harper is on the 10 day IL. Phillies seem to be struggling right now , but if Cubs can’t score it won’t matter . They get Wheeler tomorrow . Luzardo has been awful his last 2 .  At the least they didn’t lose ground to St Louis or Milwaukee today .
