I know this is for SP but as far as a bullpen addition goes, If the Redsox who are now 3 games out of a WC spot fall further back by the deadline and decide to become sellers, you know who would be a nice addition to go with Palencia at the back end of the bullpen Aroldis Chapman, hes having a terrific season 53 Ks in 36 IP 1.25 ERA and 0.78 WHIP.  Being a LHer he'd be perfect fir what the Cubs need and he'd be a rental so it shouldn't cost must in prospects to get him.

I’ll put in a vote for anyone else. But no real interest in doing all of This Whole Thing again.

Yeah, I'd rather just do a search and post a link to the previous conversation than rehash it again.

Agreed. Just ignore the post.

I'm prepared to feel the pain for Cabrera.  It's such a good fit that no one is off limits to me.  I do wonder if they are pushing to extend Tucker at this very moment because that let's them feel much better about dealing Caissie.

That is kind of where I am with Cabrera. Just do it. Then figure out how to get a rental arm. Whether it is Kelly, Gallen, Lugo, Heaney or anyone who can give them innings. If they are concerned about losing the prospects, if they really want they can just use Cabrera this year and then trade him next off season.

Would be happy with: Kelly/Suarez + Finnegan
ok with Keller/Bednar + Castro

Brujan and Berti should be mutually exclusive and should have never been on the same roster.

Fix it already Jed. There is no one left to blame.

There's 3 prospects i personally hope they dont trade.

Caissie, Rojas, and Wiggins

I think those 3 will have very good mlb future and hope it with the Cubs.

The cubs have the best run differential in baseball

The bench is atrocious. Heaven forbid the Cubs get some significant injuries in the 2nd half of the season.

The injury replacements for arguably every full time starter are sitting at AAA for a reason.

There is not one untouchable in the minors, IMO. I am not saying I would trade all of them, but for the right deal any would be available. Not for a rental, however.

I don’t think Sale is viable for these team, given his current injury, contract and age.  But looking at his career numbers it’s hard not to be impressed.  Never had a year with a FIP under 3.81 and an ERA+ under 110+, and back to back years with an ERA in the 2s at his age.

Sucks he’s hurt all the time because those numbers are insane.

That goes for most teams and if they do lose a regular for a significant amount of time that replacement will come from Iowa like McGuire did for Amaya, so it not the bench that you need to have be a acceptable replacement it the talent it Iowa where you need to hope theyre not just talented but ready to step in and fill that role.

This said I more then agree that these bench guys outside of McGuire are terrible and useless.

Those are my hopefully untouchable, but if one of them does get traded I just hope it not for a rental piece and the player will make a huge difference not just this season but will also going forward.

Rentals shouldn't cost more than a lottery ticket and, I agree, if you're going to trade Cassie and Wiggins it better be for someone hugely impactful for this season and beyond.

I also agree. And I was not suggesting trading Cassie AND Wiggins. I am just saying there is NO untouchable prospect in the system. If a top 3 in the organization is needed to get a guy who will be here for a few years and can really help this year, I wouldn’t object. But as you and Chibear already said, not for a rental.
Using last years trade of Flaherty to the Dodgers as a guide to the cost for a pitcher to start in the playoffs, the Tigers got the Dodgers 8th and 22nd ranked prospects. That would be a good spot to start when discussing Lugo, Gallen or Kelly (give or take a few spots in the Cubs rankings)

Fair enough, but there hasn't been a player reasonably mentioned to the Cubs yet that I'd part with Wiggins for. There's definitely guys out there, but none of the ones with any type of legitimate rumors attached to them.

I think Cabrera will cost someone in that Cassie, Wiggins range. They would have him 3 years after this one and he is cheap. Wouldn’t give up both of them, but I would seriously consider one and maybe even a lottery ticket too.

I'd deal Caissie for Cabrera, just not Wiggins. They only have Taillon for one more year and there's a good deal of uncertainty surrounding Steele. I feel confident Horton will iron things, but he's not quite there yet too. Also, the thought of a Steele/Shota/Cabrera/Horton/WIggins rotation makes me feel immoral things.
