The thing that keeps me from being that impatient with Turner is that he had multiple slumps of this magnitude last year and still was a good hitter.



There's no smoking gun with his statcast sliders either, especially given the small sample.  Unless things go further south I think I'm more of the mind that I give him the time to get right and then look to the trade market for someone like Mountcastle to wrap up the season, because I don't particularly trust Long(or Alcantara) to be any more effective a bench bat than Turner has been.

I'm team Keep Turner For Now, but I'd imagine it's a little harder to fight your way out of those slumps at one or two starts per week plus PH spots. But maybe I'm overthinking it/just playing devils advocate again.

These are frustrating games. Brown didn't pitch that bad, but too much contact.

Hopefully the bats can string some hits together and score a couple runs against their bullpen and the Cubs pen can hold them at 3.

Yeah the inconsistency of playing time is definitely something that crossed my mind.  But it also crosses my mind in a similar way for my expectations of Long/Alcantara, so in the absence of other alternatives(needs to wait til July) or other circumstances(Busch or OF injury), I'm still giving Turner more than 60 PA of runway.

As long as they keep winning and they're not relying much on Turner to get more then a start or two a week against tough LHers, I think theyll keep him to be more of that veteran who good in the clubhouse and on the bench.

Brujan and Lopez are the two they need to really replace and that'll likely come from Iowa later in season.

I think it's fair to say he gets more than 60 PAs. I'd give him more than 60 as well. But we're also at an age where I think I'm far less interesting in what he was. The reality is that the cliff is real and when guys fall of it, what they did prior just matters not any more. His batted ball data is some of the worst in baseball right now basically across the board.

I think with the limited opportunities it's fair to say "he gets a few more weeks" to figure it out and see if he can find an upturn. But if the data is this bad on June 1st, and Long is crushing Triple-A as much as he is right now, then you probably come to a point when whatever struggles Long will have probably won't be any worse than Turner and could offer a significant step up.

Let Pomeranz start the 7th, Merryweather if there are any guys on once they get past Lee, hope that that and Hodge get you through 9. Could see Counsell waving the white flag if there are any more runs scored (kinda think he was half doing that with Flexen last night), but also not totally sure who the white flag pitcher is at this point.
