I know Alex Cohen gets a bad wrap for a lack of chemistry with JD. But then you consider that he is 37 years old and JD is 64 years old and they will struggle with having a flowing conversation about old school baseball, and maybe even current day baseball as their experiences in baseball are different. I think Cohen is doing a fine job.

Does he work alone when he does Iowa games?  Maybe that's something to do with it?

They're solid but I don't think anything more than that.  Their pitching staff had a .229 BABIP allowed coming into tonight.  Regression is gonna hit that group like a freight train.

Add in the schedule like you called out and I don't see anything more than .500 out of them.

Francona is going to keep them pesky all year.

What's fun about this line up is it doesn't matter if you are facing one of the toughest pitchers in the league (Skenes), or someone with a hot hand (Quintana's 1.14 ERA going into last night's game), they not only score, but they score early and often. Everyone in the dugout is having fun right now, so confidence is at an all time high. They just need to stay comfortable and think about getting Shaw back in one of the next two homestands and let him just be one of the guys. They need to know if he can be the guy at 3rd or if they will need to consider bringing in some outside help at the deadline.

Bullpen has improved dramatically over what we saw in the first few weeks. Starters are actually going deep enough that the bullpen guys aren't getting much work.

I've also decided Taillon reminds me of Rick Reuschel.

Reuschel is one of the more underrated Cubs ever, but Taillon is beginning to earn the comparison.  After a pretty ugly first 3 months with the Cubs he's earned his salary and this year has even seemed to have found a little something extra that may lead to his best year as a Cub and maybe his career.  He's really looking good.

How sick is Boog? Feels like I haven’t heard him call a Cubs game in over two weeks.

Yeah, honestly never thought I'd miss Boog...but the chemistry between JD and Cohen is BRUTAL!!

Would love to see Shaw back. There’s just nothing left to prove in MiLB. He’s mastered that level. He’s not getting any better seeing minor league pitching. I think the short spring, MLB debut in Japan, back stateside against a brutal schedule was just a little too much for him to handle initially. I’m in the camp of get him back and let him play. The lineup is good enough to support whatever production he does or doesn’t bring until he (hopefully) puts it together at this level. The only way to get better against MLB pitching is to face MLB pitching on a daily basis.

How has Shaw been doing since sent down?

Mixed results on the contact quality, but incredibly disciplined in his approach and not whiffing much.

450 OBP with 11 walks to 4 Ks

Taillon has been really good since that ugly start .v. Dbacks.

I think Taillon has been pretty solid after the first few months when they signed him. He has had a few bad starts, but for the most part pitched to above his contract. He is a fine MOR starter. But MOR starters are going to have a bad start every so often.

All I could find was an article from a few years ago that he works alone on road games. On home games, he has a partner.

Isn’t Sweeney his partner at Iowa?

I am actually not sure, as I don’t watch Iowa games. The article I read was from five years ago and back then it was Deene Ehlis. So your guess is better than mine.
