So realistically to have a shot at the division, they probably need to pick up 3 games in the next 6 right? 28 games left and 6.5 back, so picking up 3 games would leave us 3.5 back with 22 to play. Obviously they could still win the division even if they don't pick up 3 games, but series with Col and Atl while Mil gets Tor and Phi is a perfect spot to make up ground.

TIL Nico has been worth 6 bWAR this year, which is wild to me. And he was at 5.5 bWAR in 2023. Last 4 years he's been at least 3.7 bWAR and at least 3.9 fWAR. I guess I didn't realize how much defensive value he provides. I knew he was a good defender but when you combine that with him being an above average hitter and playing either SS or 2B, it adds up.

But like if you just gave a bunch of random baseball fans the Cubs roster and asked them to guess which player was leading the Cubs in bWAR (he's third in fWAR), I'm guessing nobody would pick Nico first and most fans would probably list 4-6 guys before naming Nico.

Coming down to the last few games and I think what other teams do has a greater importance to the Cubs chances in the playoffs then what the Cubs do from here on out. All they need to do it play .500 ball and they are pretty much the #4 team. Padres would need to go 10-2 to tie them. But if they went 10-2 they might beat out the Dodgers. Cubs own that tie breaker against the Dodgers. To me the easiest path to the NLCS is if things stay as is. Brewers hold on to their 2 game lead (in the loss column) over the Phillies, brewers with the tie breaker. And Padres finish as the second wild card team. I feel SD then the Brewers is an easier path then either getting the Dodgers in round one or the Phillies in round two, or even both of those teams just to get to the NLCS. I know playoffs can go anyway. But I would much rather have to face either the Phillies or the Dodgers in the NLCS, and not before then.
NOTE: Dodgers win tiebreaker with the Padres.

I was listening to an old episode of The Run podcast yesterday and had a completely random Cubs thought.

With the 10th anniversary of the World Series coming up next year, and the inevitable reunions that will take place in future years, do you think Addison Russell will ever be invited back by the Cubs?  Or is he forever persona non grata?

I get why people wouldn't WANT him back, especially this soon, but will the passage of time be enough for him to eventually show his face in the city again?

Given the character issues surrounding him I would be surprised if we saw much more of him. He also started sucking as a baseball player pretty quickly after the title, so it's not like he has a rich history of great play for fans to look back on fondly.

At least he’s not Sergio mitre.

I guess my question has been answered.  Addison Russell is on the attendee list for this year's Convention.
