Brown removed after 4 innings? Is Counsell trying to make this game interesting for the viewers?

He was at 100 pitches through 4 innings.

100 pitches for a guy they are trying to be careful with. Of course he was removed.

Because multi-quotes on here are non-existent, I will respond without quoting. I didn’t watch the last inning and a bit, so didn’t realise that Brown was at 100 pitches. So point taken. Thank you both.

I’m not sure why as it’s not like there is a big rivalry but I hate AZ. Let’s win this game and win the series.

I don’t agree with this. At least not until the Cubs give him a lot more opportunities to start. He is much more valuable as a #2 or #3 starter than  a late inning guy. He may very well end up a late inning guy, but I don’t think that is the future the Cubs have mapped out for him.

Im not saying immediate future, but he'll need to add a third pitch to work for him, he don't throw the changeup enough.

He has to work on his control to limit his pitch count so he can go deeper into games, the velocity is still there after 90+ pitches just need to start getting into the 6th inning more .

If he can do all that consistently then yea leave him be, but...

Strike 3 to Naylor from Palencia was an absolutely nasty pitch.  101 on the black on a pitch that started 4-5" inside to a lefty.  That was the most dominant inning a Cubs reliever has thrown all season.

The brutal “April” schedule just keeps going and going. After the Mets series ends on May 12th, the schedule gets softer. A lot softer.

I know you don’t mean now. But I still think the plan is him as a starter. As you said, he keeps velocity thru 100 pitches, so that is a plus. Sure, a third pitch would be great. He has some time to learn one, even if used sparingly. And besides that, Steele has been a pretty successful starter on only 2 pitches. And he doesn’t e en throw high 90’s. His control has to be better whether he starts or is a late inning guy.
