Some other team will surely turn Palencia into one of the best RP in the game but for whatever reason, with the Cubs he doesn't miss a ton of bats and doesn't throw enough quality strikes. He doesn't overpower hitters like he should.

It's also a problem that you have to pinch hit for your light hitting 3B with another light hitting 3B, then replace him with a pinch runner if he gets on base, or a defensive replacement otherwise.

Against a LH pitcher in that spot?  Unquestionably vs whatever else is left on the bench.  Amaya is sort of reverse splits and I think everyone else is a lefty.
