Maybe I missed it but how much are the Astros covering?

Don’t think it’s been reported yet

Bello is a bit more than I was expecting to give up.  Not necessarily talent wise, but that much talent and NOT on the 40 man is a bit more than I expected.

I don't love giving Pressly a full NTC, but if that's what it took to get the deal done, that's fine.  I  suppose in the scenario where he is pitching well and the Cubs are inexplicably out of the race by the deadline, he would probably be willing to waive the NTC to go to a contender anyway.

He'll definitely be waiving it to go back to Houston..lol

The grade on this deal hinges on how much cash the Astros are sending the Cubs way. If it's 4-5M and this lets the Cubs give the Cubs enough cash to get another arm , it's a a huge win. The free agent relief market still has a lot of depth options, that won't cost a ton.

1 year pricer options.

Robertson/Finnegan/Chafin/Kahnle/

If you are saying he makes one offer and then doesn’t talk to others and know about what it takes to make something else happen, I disagree. And I sure hope that isn’t the case.  I believe while Pressley is deciding he is talking to Robertson ,Stanek and others….. If he is also looking for an infield bat he is talking to guys like Moncada, Dejong, and others. Maybe even discussing a trade for that bat. Same with the outfield. He has to have an idea of cost of either Canhu, Bader, Grichik or Joe. Maybe even offer into any of those guys at any of those positions while he waits on Pressley. I do agree he has to balance the spending.(per ownership) But that cannot mean he doesn’t have several things going at once.

I mean offers as in money or trade offers, I'm sure or hope he has their ear in letting them know he's interested or seeing if they're interested in making a deal.

With the Astros needing $$$ and roster space for Bregman, a non 40 man lotto ticket always seemed like the end result to me. Never understood why the Astros would take a Thompson or Canario back if that meant they had to DFA someone else to make room for Bregman.

Does this mean Bregman is off the table?

Bregman was always an extreme long shot at best. Boras using us as leverage to squeeze another year out of his contract plus the Cubs using him as leverage to get this Pressly deal across. Bregman back to the Astros seems likely at this point.

Combined trades this offseason:

Cubs get - Kyle Tucker, Ryan Pressly
Astros get - Isaac Paredes, Cam Smith, Hayden Wesneski, Juan Bello

With Tucker and Pressly being FA after the season,  I hope we're not sitting here at this time next year with none of of these players on the roster. They gotta extend Tucker

So if Houston re-signs Bregman, does Paredes get traded again?

I like that. Get a proven back end of the bullpen reliever for a current JAG prospect and $8M. Add Robertson/Stanek and pen is in a good spot.

Add Robertson and the pen is filthy. I still hate the bench and really wish there was an addition of a more reliable mid rotation arm than Boyd. With that said, they go out and grab Robertson then add a legit bench bat, then I'm on board. That's a 90 win team.
