Wow, who would of thought the Tigers and Royals would not only make the playoffs but knock off the Astros and Orioles to move on to the NLDS.

3 AL Central teams in final four for the American League

At least in Detroit and KC's case, the benefits of getting to play one of the worst teams in history 13 times vs. only 6 for the other AL teams. Detroit went 10-3 vs. the Sox while KC went 12-1. They both beat out Seattle (6-1 vs. the Sox) by a game.

And has anyone paid attention to the pens of those two teams? Any star middle relief arms? And star closers? Or is is just a collection of mainly youngish system guys with maybe a average(ish) middle relief pitcher added to the young guys. In fact the “established, dependable” Astros pen arms (Pressley and Hader) actually blew the game.

This is not the great argument you think it is.

The Mets' bullpen will obviously blow it but I'm enjoying the turnabout of the Brewers facing a SP throwing 91 MPH fastballs down the middle and still somehow not being able to do anything.

Wow. I never even thought about the disparity advantage of playing the Sox. Thanks for pointing this out.

You just knew it was all over when Butto dropped the baseball on the mound when he was warming up

Giving up HR’s to Chourio is one thing, giving HR’s to a scrub and mediocre player is another thing.  Embarrassing for the Mets.

Twins with an epic regular season choke, Brewers with an epic playoff choke, Cubs continue to exist in purgatory. I blame Brock for it all

They acquired a White Sox board this year, too.

Pretty sure that’s a Red Sox forum. Soxtalk is a white Sox forum, talksox is Red Sox

edit: holy crap they have a marlins forum too?  They are talking over baseball forums.

Baseball is incredible. The amount of firsts that still happen. Stuff you’d have thought have happened, actually haven’t.

Win your division then lose two at home?  You deserve to be bounced.  At least there is a series albeit a short one.  If there are better ideas I’d gladly take them but it’s better than the one-and-done that we had.

Thank God the Stros are out.

One and done is was and always will be the best option for wild card entrants

I was originally in the "3 games series is better" camp.  Now that we have seen it in action for a few years, I am changing my vote back to a single game Wild Card, with the caveat that division winners all need to receive byes into the NLDS.  The problem is, I'm not sure how you do that with the expanded playoff format.

If you insist on that you have to switch back to 2 divisions. But you don’t have to do that. One and done puts greater emphasis on regular season. If you don’t want to win your division and be eliminated in one game, then win more regular season games.

it rewards greatness while maintaining the possibility for more teams to stay in the race.

Pick a neutral site and all the WC teams go there.  The bottom 2 play each other Tuesday, winner plays the top WC team Wednesday, winner of that game goes to the division series against the team with the best record.  It would be absolute madness and I'd love it.
