Going to be a heavy transaction day between this, Steele, and possibly Lopez.

Is it a dick move to cut Smyly at this point in the season?

For those unaware, Happ's HR last night put him atop the leaderboard for fastest pitches to hit a HR on in the pitch-tracking era. He is the first to HR off of a pitch 103+. Also cool is he became one of 7 hitters to have multiple HR on 100+ mph pitches, as he did so against Helsey earlier this year. Both came in 3-4 losing efforts in which he homered twice 😭

I think more hitters should look oppo on these terrifying pitches and let the velo do the work with a nice easy swing. I think too often hitters go up there trying to get out in front.

Yes but I hope they do it anyway.

I assume Neely is out, so that's one.  It would be weird to bring Palencia back yesterday and send him right back out today, so I assume he's safe.  Roberts seems to have earned a bit of Craig's trust.  Cut Armstrong and send Wicks back to Iowa?

Well nevermind on Palencia being safe

I guess Wesneski pitched yesterday for Iowa so he'll probably be a Thursday or Friday move

Did Steele just not have it today, or was it something worse that got him pulled after 2.2 IP?

Something worse. The Cubs will fail to make the post season again. So there's no sense in pushing a guy who just came back from an elbow injury.

Another example of the strike zone changing from inning to inning, that 2-1 pitch called a strike against Suzuki was a ball in the top of the inning.

So ready for these clowns to be removed from the strike determining equation.

Steele ended up throwing 16 more pitches after he had Rooker struck out of the umpire made the right call. Had to be pulled early due to pitch count. They really need to get rid of umpires calling pitches. The worst part about it is when reviewing the umpires they are given an inch either way so basically any close pitch they aren’t being considered wrong.

The main issue is consistency, I believe pitchers and batters can live with any strike zone as long as what's a strike in the first inning is a strike in the ninth inning.  As we've seen on many occasions home plate umpires are not consistent.
