Dammit I’m gonna have to do the work and count how many games we’ve lost with a lead in the 8th inning or later. I lost count a long time ago. Gotta be something like 15 or so at this point

OK I did the work, that’s the 14th time the Cubs have had the lead in the 8th inning or later and lost the game:

9/14 @ COL

9/2 vs PIT

8/3 vs STL

7/13 @ STL

6/24 @ SF

6/17 vs SF

6/11 @ TB

5/25 @ STL

5/3 vs MIL

5/2 @ NYM

4/20 vs MIA

4/16 @ ARI

4/8 @ SD

3/28 @ TEX

Yeah, save it so you can pay more for the same slop next year. Ricketts thanks you! 😉😉

horsefeathers can’t get me on the other side of the world.  Although paying to watch this team on TV is pretty… silly for lack of a better word.

Jed's offseason plan: kick the tires on 50-year-old Octavio Dotel

As if the Ricketts could afford him.

I'd be really interested to know how many games the average team loses when leading at some point in the 8th inning or later (I know, UMFan is obsessing over this again).  Like does it happen 3-4 times a year?  10?

Imagine if instead of blowing 14 games with a lead in the 8th inning or later, they only blew 7.  7 still seems like a high number but who knows.  But anyways, in that scenario the Cubs are suddenly 1 game ahead of the Mets/Braves for WC3.

We all know bullpens are fickle as the nature of why a guy gets sent to the pen, but they have to do more than get a room filled with waiver wire pick ups and 29 year old journeymen. Injuries aside.

If you’re going to limit innings put in the young starters for regular work in the pen. I don’t know, but change what is not working

Stop playing Wisdom for Busch against lefties. Busch was hot and got benched and has an OPS that is 120 points higher against lefties than Wisdom. Don’t understand that.

Actually if they were major league average they would have 3 more wins. Now, if they converted at the levels the brewers do, they would be 84-64 and leading the WC race and just a few games behind the brewers.

You can stop there.  He shouldn't even be on an MLB roster and at this point he is just taking opportunities from young guys who could actually matter in the future.

Wonder if Hoyer decides it's time to DFA a couple players and bring up some prospects to play out the season.

Is it bad form to DFA your active Roberto Clemente Award nominee?

It's easy to look back and play the "what if" game, but the Cubs have many areas that were far below average during the season.

I’m  not looking back and playing the “what if” game. I am answering the question asked about if the Cubs had an league average on blown saves as well as if they actually held leads at an a rate the Brewers did.
I disagree they are “far below average” in any area of the team. Honestly they are a perfect example of a very average team., and their record represents that. Not great, not terrible. Average!

Their big problem is inconsistency.  They went months with no offense from PCA, Amaya, and 3B and long streaks of very good relief pitching and bad relief pitching.
