One step forward, two steps back with this horsefeathers team, can't we just fast forward to the start of football?

I'm rather enjoying bears playing fake football til September. Beats the heck out of cubs madness lately.

Though it means little to the Cubs with Paredes now manning 3B, but Bregman has really turned his season around. He's up to a 117 wRC+ and 3.2 fWAR. Since July 1st, 160 PAs, he has posted a .297/.350/.561 line good for a 156 wRC+. If he keeps rolling through the rest of the regular season he is going to get a near 200M contract and he wont take a single AB of that contract before he turns 31.

I knew Bergman was very good but didn’t realize he was “almost 40 fWAR at age 30” good.

He still has an outside shot to hit that 60 fWAR area where HoF discussions happen, but most likely he ends up in the hall of very good. Given the garbage can situation, I think he'd have to have a pretty clear cut case to get voted in.

Thought this was interesting even if it doesn't tell us much.  This is every player with 45+ PA in high leverage situations, sorted by their OPS in those situations.

Interesting that Harper is often mentioned as an MVP candidate but is 2nd to last lol

That Seiya stat backed up how I feel every time he's up with less than 2 outs and a man on third.

Always looking for that critical walk with runners on 1st and 3rd and 1 out lol

Happ' position surprises me, it seems he K's more often than he produces in those situations.

18.5% K rate in 54 PAs, which is 10 Ks. Career rate is 27% and he has 14 hits (8 extra base hits) in those situations. Was pretty good last year too (.897 OPS, 24% BB rate to 14% K rate). BABIP is basically what he runs normally, just seems to have been better in those scenarios.

Seiya's is a little harder to parse. BB rate is 8.7% (8.5% across all PAs), K rate is 21.7% (26.8% across all PAs). BABIP is trash (.194 v .333 across all PAs) with no power (3 XBHs in 46 PAs). Obviously you're breaking this down to unusable sample sizes at some point, but his batted ball profile in high leverage situations seems fine too (43.8% hard hit v 37.5% across all PAs). Seems too optimistic to just chalk it up to bad luck but....that's probably driving a lot of it.

Being 3rd on the list surprises me a bit, but I've always felt Happ has been one of the most under appreciated players across the league.

Not sure about across the league, but definitely with many here who always wants to replace him and acts like it would be easy to do.

Sick as horsefeathers watching the Seiya zone day after horsefeathering day.

Automated strike zone would be nice. It would probably help young players develop a bit better as well.

If you’re going to have a bad strike zone at least be consistent and not give Cleveland 5” either way of the plate and squeeze Chicago on the edges all night long. Good lord
