With the runner starting on second? Dansby is really good but I don’t know if he’s that good

I don’t know why I thought there were runners on 1st and 2nd, dad life getting to me.

Pulled Merryweather one batter too late

As Counsell normally does with a pitcher. Need a miracle tomorrow to get Assad through 6 solid innings. But I’m sure he’ll get through 4 innings on 97 pitches like he has been.

The sort of loss that if they'd won the game where they led 8-0, or the one where they drew 6 bases loaded walks in one inning, or the one where they had the final out of the 8th on a popup to shallow center, or pick any of the other 12 ridiculous losses they've had this year, might not hurt as much

Not having Leiter lost us the game there.  Smyly is worse vs LHB, and Lopez is terrible vs LHB.  Merryweather did very well vs LHB last year but he's just not himself yet.  This is the pen Hoyer has left Counsell with.

We also needed some cleaner fielding in this game or a better outing by Imanaga.  If Counsell is lacking that much confidence in the pen that he thought sticking with Imanaga was the better bet then we have pen issues again.

You can't score 8 runs and lose.

Yeah, I missed most of the runs scored in the 4th and 5th by Cleveland, but appears the error was very costly, and according to my friend who was texting me in the moment,  Imanaga got squeezed on a couple of critical pitches that really changed the complexion of those at bats and the inning.

Still, you have to adapt and overcome, calls will be missed and errors will be made and Imanaga has overcome such things more times than not this year.

But no doubt, can't score 8 and lose.  I mean Cleveland ain't exactly an offensive juggernaut...they're good but not great....their bullpen is their strength and we beat them there!!

There should have been runners in 1st and 2nd had Dansby not kicked the ball into the outfield. He wouldn’t have gotten the guy at 1st on the grounder he slid to try to stop, but Ramirez was going back to 2nd until he kicked the ball. So you are right, the ground ball could have been a double play if the infield was playing back. I am not sure that is true, (it was a high hopper and they might not have turned it) but your argument does make sense based on where runners should have been.

I thought that play should have been ruled a Hit and an Error, for that reason.  He wasn't going to get the runner at first base, so it was definitely a hit, but the runner wasn't going to advance to third until Dansby allowed the ball to get past him.

Thank you, you put it into words better than me. That was my thought.
