Deadline moves went as well as the season …fire Jed should be offseason move #1.

Fine deadline. No one was going to take Cody or Neris off our hands.

Since his performance has been so spotty, would it be justified to "bench" Neris enough to make sure his option next year does not automatically kick in?

Jed doesn't do things like this.  Also would be hard to sign other FA relievers plus some of your team would hate you.

They don't even have to do anything nefarious.  He's pacing for exactly 60 games.  If he continues pitching well (which he has been for a little while now) he probably exceeds it and you're probably happy with the option and if he doesn't he doesnt and you're happy to show him the door.

There is no world in which I'm happy about paying $9M for a 36 year old Hector Neris.

There's 54 games left, if they use him 3 times for every 10 games, he'll get about 15-17 appearances.

I don't see Ricketts paying him to sit at home

Neris since May 1: 27.2 IP, 3.58 ERA, 3.99 FIP, 29/13 K/BB, 3 HR

He got off to a slow start with all the walks, but since then he's been fine.  If the worst case scenario is you are required to pay him 9 million dollars there are many worse things.

They'll have Paredes as a major upgrade and 40M to either get a couple big upgrades or one superstar upgrade.

Steele off again tonight. Hopefully he can get out of this and settle in.

Ffs Dansby, there is really no need to celebrate hitting a double when you should have a “WTF?” expression at barely missing a home run.

what are you talking about

That Hoyer will return and he'll be hoping that his key hitters will play better next season.

Most of the key hitters will likely be returning barring trades.

Bellinger, Hoerner, Swanson,  Paredes, Happ, Bellinger,  Suzuki. PCA(maybe)

Yep.

If I am going to watch the Cubs play 155+ times, I sure as horsefeathers am going to be as miserable as possible.

The Cubs defense should be better next year. They had so many injuries too this year. If the team had been healthier the numbers likely would have been better. No more Hendericks as well, which at this point is addition by subtraction,
