I do not feel great about Paredes' offense fully translating to Wrigley Field, but fixing 3B and doing so with a guy as cheap as Paredes significantly raises the ceiling on next year's team.

Wow. Jed is taking a big gamble on Paredes batted ball profile translating to Wrigley. I don't love the gamble, but I guess let's see what we're giving up.

On a side note, as I outlined a couple days ago in an earlier thread, all of this can be traced back to the Matt Garza trade.

  • We gave up Chris Archer, Hak-Ju Lee, Sam Fuld, Brandon Guyer, and Robinson Chirinos.
  • Archer was later flipped to the Pirates for Tyler Glasnow and Austin Meadows.
  • Meadows was later flipped to the Tigers for Paredes

So if we'd never traded for Garza, Paredes would have never made it to TB where he had his big breakout, and we'd have never probably traded for him.

Edit: And i totally forgot that we originally drafted Paredes. Bizarre!

Idk if it will work, but Jed finally making some moves on consequence. I like it on the surface

So Morel is doing like 90% of the lifting here.  Clearly the Rays are team xwOBA with Morel's bat

That is a damn steal

Yeah, its essentially just a Morel for Paredes swap.  Bigge is replaceable and I don't know what a Ty Johnson is.

Carries risk, but decisively attempts to fix a position of need for multiple seasons.  Doesn't touch prospect depth, fixes the potential logjam of DH's at the MLB level, and doesn't add meaningful payroll.  Fantastic.

That's it for me.  Even if Paredes is a potential offensive downgrade, at least he has a position and keeps DH open for other options.

I wonder if this has any implication on Nico's future. With Shaw, Triantos and a handful of prospects now definitely looking at that path...I wonder what they're going to do there. Not that Nico needs to be on hug watch right this second or anything, just thinking outloud.

What a terrible trade that was, think Avila was a part of it too.

Yeah. I’m guessing Jed didn’t sign off on that one. Re-acquiring Candelario last year, Paredes this year.

Paredes has never hit an opposite field homer?

Parades opposite field home runs in the MLB: 0

1908's opposite field home runs in the MLB: 0

The great equalizer.
