Anyone catch what Heyman said? Seeing on Twitter that he said Suzuki has been involved in trade talks. Hoping the context around what he said is along the lines of “teams have asked about his availability”. It was said on the B/R app, but I don’t have -

I hope they don’t deal Suzuki. It might affect the interest Japanese players have on coming to the Cubs. Besides that, he is one of their best offensive players. I don’t want him moved.

I don't love a Suzuki trade. But if the Cubs think he has to be a DH, we're in a bit of a bind, since Morel has pretty conclusively proven he needs to be a DH next season. And since I'd rather not sell low on Morel when his batted ball data gives reason for hope, it may make sense to have discussions about Suzuki.

I'd be absolutely baffled by moving Seiya unless Jed is all in on Soto this offseason.

Jed will not be all in on Soto.

There is no good rationale behind trading Suzuki. He's having a good season and he can help next year. Unless Jed is blown away with an offer, I can't image he's going anywhere. And yeah, I have little to no hope we'd even be a finalist for Soto.

I really don’t envision a trade having a negative effect on future Japanese player recruitment. They’ve had several players come through the system, and traded away bigger names without damaging their rep.

The one good reason is positional, since this team that tried to build itself on defensive excellence seemingly has half a dozen guys that should be DH.

Yup. There's no excuse for a team that has Swanson, Hoerner, and PCA up the middle to be so mediocre on defense overall.

Sad facts, morels numbers currently prove he's not a hitter, designated or otherwise

That's not really true, though. There appears to be a degree of bad luck thus far.

Even if it's a 100 point of OPS type of bad luck, he still isn't very good. He needs to be a 130 wRC+ masher to provide value with his defense or if he wants to be a full time DH>

Barely .300 obp, .375 slg .675 ops, less than 100 ops+

Over 400 plate appearances. Ain't no horsefeathers bad luck anymore. In 2024 He's bad at baseball.

Did we make a mistake pitching Taillon tonight? Or does one start not make a difference/he's likely to stay now?

1. I think if the Cubs expected to trade him, he'd have been scratched. So for whatever reason; either teams not valuing Taillon or the Cubs uninterested in really trading him, that doesn't seem to be happening as of now.

2. I fully believe the people who run MLB teams understand sample size and that outliers happen. If you liked Taillon at 5pm you like him at 10pm because his arm didn't fall off despite a not great start. One good start won't make a team jump and a bad one won't scare a team off barring health issues.

That was my assumption. I've kinda been expecting him to be traded but there's no reason to if you don't get an enticing enough offer.
