That 11-21 record vs the central is the difference between 51-46 and 46-51 if they were played 500 ball.

throw in tie breaker losses to every NL wld team and you can stick a fork in them.

When will Jed replace the replacement level production from morel and Amaya? 2026? Like the pen he’s no fan of addressing glaring needs.

Morel was removed from the field, next is removal from the lineup, even though it's a lost cause I'd like to see Canario get a shot at DH today.  He'll just strike out instead of the Morel multiple outs in single at bat special.  Hell, just do it to change something up, waiting out Busch has turned well but, it's time to cut the string with Morel.

Morel needs to make more adjustments at the plate.  He took an outside pitch and drove it hard over the CF yesterday, I was impressed.  But then he was way out in front of an offspeed pitch to end the game, but that happens.  Canario has similar issues.  Caissie K's a ton but it seems more like not having quick hands rather than poor plate approach, similar to Busch.

Ian Happ has the 7th highest WAR among NL outfielders.

I like Happ, he's a gamer and his entire focus seems to be on the game in the moment.  He plays every game and virtually never gets injured, big moments don't seem to bother him, he doesn't smile, he seems to have zero ego, and he gives the bare minimum effort to the post-hit hand celebrations his teammates do because he doesn't GAF about that stuff.  In an era of bat flips I find this charming.

Its close, but if I had to trade one of Happ/Suzuki I'd probably trade Suzuki.  Give me a winner over a dropper of routine flyballs in big situations.

The only thing that would be of concern about trading Suzuki is the Japanese ballplayers coming over. I feel the Cubs have a very good reputation with Asian players. Outside of the Dodgers, IMO, there is no team with a better chance at getting a player from Asia. I do worry that if they traded Suzuki that might change. And besides that, why do they need to trade either. Those are both very good bats. Keep them and add to them. I know you said if they had to trade one. I am saying they don’t have to so no reason to even discuss it. Both are good.

Generally I agree, good post.  Also considering we traded Darvish with the no-trade clause.

We may have a crowded OF a year from now though so trading somebody may be optimal.  Happ, Suzuki, Bellinger, PCA, Caissie, plus Tauchman and Canario more as bench types.  Would be best to get rid of one of the first 3 guys to free up payroll.  One of those OF can DH, and there's no rush with Caissie, he just turned 22 a week ago, but he's progressing well and by mid season next year there may not be anything left for him to learn in AAA.

Darvish only had a full NTC through 2020. He was traded when he had only a limited NTC.

To reiterate from last offseason, having 5 good players for 4 spots is not crowded nor a problem needing solving.  Injuries, rest, and performance ebbs/flows will make that pretty much irrelevant, it's 130 games/person on average.  Especially when this logjam requires 2 prospects seizing spots at a level they haven't yet demonstrated an ability to perform at, along with Bellinger not opting out.

38 players have been selected as NL all-stars among 15 NL teams.  Only 1 from the Cubs.  Yikes.

Happ is close, and Steele/Taillon could have made it without injuries.

Hoyer is waiting for players like Morel to lose all of his trade value before dumping him for next too nothing.

At the moment Morel has little to no trade value, he can't catch or hit the ball, don't know what else there is when it comes to baseball.
