There really isn't one guy on this team right now that I have confidence in them to get a hit.  They're all hitting under .260 and half of them are under .220 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️

Just remember, league average ain’t what it used to be. Still, I agree with you.

This is one of the worst slumps since those rebuilding 2013-2014 teams. I mean it's horrendously bad, look at the 30 day splits (I know the sabermetrics peeps will skew it slightly upward with BABIP bad luck but these traditional stats are DEAD LAST):

Yeah even though I'm not sure coaching changes does much, those are numbers that make you question what the coaching staff is doing with these guys.  Teams will have ebbs and flows over the course of the season but it doesnt feel like this team should be so bad for so long.  But ask me 2 hours after the game is over and I might feel differently.  I tend to overreact during games.

Should this be a "nothing to see here, business as usual" reaction by the team/coaches or are they at the point where they need something to be shaken up, like bringing up a Davis?  It's still super early in the season and the team will surely hit better at some point, but we can't afford to have too many 2-5 homestands.

Would be nice if the horsefeathers Cubs would start hitting the horsefeathers baseball.  They're at home for fucks sake.

And maybe this offseason we don't give some injured washed up has-been 16.5m dollars based on a few months of success and the fact that he's a nice guy and been with the team for a long time.  You want a Smyly for SP depth then go pay Smyly money.  But Smyly sucks too.  So maybe stop signing bad SP to bloated contracts.  If they want crappy SP results then pay a few million for a crappy SP.  If they want a SP with talent who can get outs not based on luck then pay the money it costs for talent.  Is Hoyer not listening to coaches and scouts who should be telling him the small amount of success Smyly and Hendricks had before their deals/options were signed was based on a bunch of luck hanging on a razor's edge?  Scout the darn talent and get your heads out of the short-term stat sheets you idiots.

Hendricks, Smyly, Mancini, Barnhart, Villar, Descalso....pay for talent not replacement bums you idiots!  You want replacement players then go sign some AAAA nobodies for pennies and hope for the best.

Sorry for the rant.

In order of likelihood, if they're looking to shake up the position player pool, I think it's

  • Bring back PCA
  • (gap)
  • Do something about the catchers
  • (gap)
  • Bring up Caissie (mayyyybe BJMJ if he stays on his current tear for a month)
  • (gap)
  • All Others (Davis, Mervis, etc)

I'm also an ebbs & flows guy but those stats don't lie. Nobody is hitting, I mean nobody.

We're not going to make it to 10 years of service time are we Kyle

Didn't understand letting him pitch in a one run game, he's solely a mop up guy.

Counsell knows 1 run deficit is pretty much a blowout with this offense

Well, not the best relief debut for Hendricks, wonder when they will consider cutting bait on him. Or maybe they will be delirious and listen to the experts who thought his first outing against the pirates would be repeatable and keep him a bit longer.

jed is a failure

Not excusing him for anything but his real plan is to have the team play competitive enough (building 80-85 win teams) until our top farm system starts graduating prospects.  He might be a failure right now but if even a couple of those guys pan out the Cubs should hypothetically be good for awhile.  That's the only thing that keeps me on Jed's side.

If any of the prospects are good they will just be replacing the good cubs who price themselves off of the cubs. this was the year that Jed had to build a good team, and it doesn't look like he's done it

Welp, that's it for me for a few days. Hope they get it together at some point. We really had no business walking off that 1-0 game.

We are trending downward badly and the only game we have a shot at right now is Imanaga.
