The Cubs got blown out yesterday, Jordan Wicks has a forearm injury, and Chris Morel got pretty banged up

However all is not lost

This is what the depth is for.  Hayden Wesneski is up and depth oready to step right in tonight.

The Sox are throwing out Tanner Houck.  He's a real tough cookie so this game would have been dicey even with Wicks

Guessing Mervis, I mean ??? is to follow up Wesneski.

Gonna need the bats to click tonight and score 5+ again or hopefully Wes and the pen gives them an awesome 9 innings of shutdown baseball.

Lets Go, win this series

Lovelady's pitched extremely well at Iowa and I believe did the increasingly common "dump your gyro slider for a cutter + sweeper" move.  I'm much more optimistic he's going to turn out to be a thing than Brewer or any of the other vets stashed at Iowa.

Good feeling about tonight's game and getting that W for #18 to get into  first place...

According to BN, he has given up 8 runs in 12 innings. Opponents hitting .373 off of him. I know his k and w rate are outstanding and he has pitched in some bad luck. But his era is almost 6. Hard to call that extremely well.

If the Cubs win they move into sole possession of first place.

It's 2024 we can do better than this

So guys aren’t hitting .373 against him? He doesn’t have an era over 5? Those numbers don’t matter in 2024? I do understand your reason for optimism. And I hope you are right. I just wouldn’t call what he has done in AAA pitching extremely well.

Correct, they don't.  Lovelady's missing a well above average amount of bats (both in and out of zone), throwing an obscene number of strikes, and most of the contact against him has been on the ground.  Oh and he's generating mostly soft contact, so there's not a Kyle Hendricks situation happening.

Youre right, standing wasn't updated yet when I looked, even better

"Sunday Night Baseball, from America's most beloved ballpark"

Really, when they are playing the Cubs?  I'm not saying Wrigley is more beloved than Fenway, but it's really hard to separate one from the other in that conversation.

Fenway is a dump and not even remotely on the level of Wrigley or any modern park.

I haven't been there in over 10 years, but I definitely remember it being lacking in several areas - The primary one being that the seats were designed for tiny people and anyone who is over 6 ft tall and/or over 200 lbs. can't possibly fit comfortably.
