The pen has been terrific since the last game of the Padres series.  It's amazing what happens when they're not carrying the load for the starters.

How much of that is due to Wes' 4 innings vs Arizona and Leiter Jr being Leiter Jr?  Don't disagree that they've been much better since that 8-0 debacle vs SD but.. this bullpen is far from legit IMO... this could be a 20-6 team right now...

But I do think that they will eventually be good, maybe even dominant with 1 more piece

It's the whole pen: https://www.fangraphs.com/leaders/major-league?pos=all&lg=all&qual=0&ind=0&rost=0&filter=&player=&season=2024&season1=2024&team=17&stats=rel&type=0&month=2

If my math is correct this is the 21st time in 26 games that the Cubs have had the lead in the 8th inning or later.

The blown leads sucked but that is really impressive.

Man what’s up with the cubs defense so far this season?

I assume this is referencing the Morel play?  If so, he's made plays on 2 balls tonight that would have likely ended up in the dugout in the first couple weeks of the season.  He didn't get outs on either, but they were close plays on real tough chances.  He's much improved over there.  On the other hand, Dansby has kinda been dogshit all season and needs to get it together.

Having 3-4 different guys in the pen that can give you 5+ outs if needed should be a thing for a bullpen if it isn't already.

Wesneski,  Thompson,  Leiter,  they could use a lefty to fill they spot.

I was referencing dansby and (I believe) hoerner from a few days ago. Morel was looking rough in the first week or two but it seems to me that he’s getting better.
