For the first time in a long time, I'm going to tune in with full interest to this draft's first day and enjoy myself immensely.  Might even break out some nachos and beer.

Yeah. I'm having a small draft party. Most of my friends are daytime drinkers (we are all retired) and like to be in bed sleeping when it gets dark. I'm a homer every year, but I'm going to be an annoying homer this year.

I've been calling around to local sports bars and it's shocking, at least to me, how few are doing anything at all for the NFL draft. Most are completely oblivious to it going on at all. It seems like a huge wasted opportunity for extra income, but maybe I'm overestimating how many people care about the draft.

How many years has the 1st round been on Thursday and I still forget every year until the week of that it is on Thursday.

I scheduled a meeting in my work calendar to help me remember this year....

Think its been like this since 2010ish.  I hate how they stretch it out over 3 days though.  Should be 1st and 2nd on the first day, the other 5 rounds on the second day.

Either way, I'm just happy its finally here.  The gap between the Super Bowl and the draft is way too long for me...

If the first round didn't literally take 4+ hours that might be possible, but the first round just drags forever.

Poles really doesn't care about comp picks. Bears extend Ian Cunningham.

I’m not following. This doesn’t preclude other teams from interviewing Cunningham for future openings, does it?

No. In fact if you want to get a pick for him you better have him under contract in the correct role so a team has to poach.

Yeah I don't think this necessarily changes much.  I'm sure Cunningham still wants to run his own team at some point.  If the right team offers him a GM role he'll still leave.  The Bears can give him money but they cant give him a GM title unless Poles gets fired or promoted to a senior executive like role which isnt happening anytime soon.

My local bar is having their 2nd annual draft day party. Last year it was packed(like 150 people) this year I expect it to be even more. I think in the coming years it will die down though assuming the Bears picks aren't top 10ish.

I went last year but there was so much chatter you could barely hear the commentary. Im going to just stay home

I went to the Foundry in Aurora last year for the draft and it was awful. The place was basically abandoned except for like 15 people who gathered for a trivia night and because of the trivia night they turned off the TV sound after like the 7th pick and we spent the rest of the time staring at silent screens.

The draft is pretty good background noise for a Saturday working around the house. It’s awful tv otherwise.

Completely agree.  The only time I've had the Saturday draft on is when its on in the background when doing something else.  Though with so many Michigan guys likely to be drafted in the later rounds I'll be paying a little more attention to it this year.

The bar I was at was raffling off Bears tickets and merchandise and beer was like $2 a can so maybe that could be it.

Trey Henderson (17.5 sacks last season) is requesting a trade from the Bengals.  I doubt we could get involved with just 3 tradable picks (not including 1.1), but maybe if he keeps his demand through training camp we could get involved.
