Damn, when I saw this yesterday I figured he was on board with coming to Chicago

But seriously, I'm not sure how much sense that makes.  Couldn't he just refuse to sign with the Bears or at least make it heavily known that he doesnt want to play for Chicago?  Wouldn't be the first top QB to do so and get their way.  Seems stupid to play another year of college football if you are ready for the NFL because the team with the number 1 pick won't make a decision on how they plan to use the pick on January 15th.  Also doesn't make sense without at least talking to the Bears or seeing who they hire at OC.

I don't believe any of this stuff and Chicago is also the best team for him to realistically go to in the short term so I think it would be really bizarre if he refused to come here.

The whole narrative speaks to an audience primed to think "oh well the Bears ruin QBs and we expect it" - but not to realities on the ground.

The realities on the ground are Matt Eberflus is the head coach and they have no offensive system.

They’ve never added positively to a QBs career in this kids lifetime. And there’s no sign that they’ve figured anything out on that side of the call. hesitancy to join this team is rational

It's possible, I just doubt it. We have nothing on the story other than a bunch clout chasers inventing stories.

I don't think Caleb Williams looks at Chicago, Washington, New England sans Belichick, or Arizona and is like oh yeah, I definitely don't want to go to Chicago and would rather go to those places.

He can be hesitant, but you can count one one hand the list of guys who forced their way out of a team in the draft and none of those have happened since the scaled rookie contracts.  He doesn't have a ton of leverage.  He can go back to school as basically his only real leverage and we'll have that answer in like 3 days.

If Caleb really doesn't want to come to Chicago and is trying to make it known that the Bears shouldn't draft him, that is such in indictment on the Bears. It's an indictment on ownership and on Poles for thinking that Eberflus is the right coach to lead a star rookie QB.

The Chargers are interviewing Harbaugh, but the Bears are sticking with their coach because he held down the fort during the storm of his own making. This team deserves to be bad again next year.

If that crap about Caleb refusing to come to Chicago is true, call his bluff, draft him, and force an Eli Manning on him.

A lot of mixed reporting about whether that report had any basis in reality

You know stability, want to stick with same HC regardless of the lack of quality or ability at anything besides being terrible.

Just because I'm getting nervous that the deadline is creeping closer for Caleb, how does your draft plan change if for some reason Caleb stays in college?  Do you zero in on Maye, look at the next tier of QBs that might be available at 9 (or a #1 trade down to 5-8), consider sticking with Fields?  While I see why people like Maye, I feel like Caleb not declaring would really shake things up.

Caleb is going to declare, but if he doesn’t you just draft Maye and keep Fields. No reason to get cute. If Caleb doesn’t declare, it shows how weak he is mentally and it might be a good thing the Bears don’t draft him.

Take Maye. Who knows, maybe he's their preference anyways

I don't love drafting another Tall White Guy From North Carolina, but thats about it when it comes down to comparing Trubisky and Maye. Haven't watched as much film on his as I have Caleb, but he's a very very good prospect.

If it makes you feel better, Trubisky is only 6'2, and Maye is 6'4-6'5, and they have completely different body types. Of course, both wore #10 for UNC and are definitely white

Between Waldron, Kubiak, Coen, and Olson....

I'd rank them....

Kubiak

Waldron

Olson

Coen

Which means they'll hire Coen.

They're different enough to go beyond skin color, university, and number to be able to differentiate the two.

If for some reason Williams isn't there at 1/1, I would be fine taking Maye. Unlike Trubisky, Maye would be the best QB available if that happened.

OK there it is...Seems like Caleb's agent put that last sentence in there to dispute the fake reports about him refusing to come to the Bears.

How tall is Williams?

Reported at 6'1 but I bet he's closer to 6 foot even when he's measured.  That's really the only reservation I have about Caleb but he's not Bryce Young/Kyler Murray short (both 5'10)
