The lowly bears host the lowlier cardinals on Christmas Eve and its a late afternoon start for some reason. Most of the country will be watching Dolphins/Cowboys.

The bears are probably due for an offensive touchdown or two and Fields may give the true believers a last glimmer of hope. Chicago is favored by 4.5. Carolina will have already played by the time this game starts. The draft implications will be discussed quite a bit in this game. A real, losers win situation.

Green Bay should beat Carolina but this could be another way for them to horsefeathers the Bears.  3:25 start on Christmas Eve, lol horsefeathers off NFL.

This actually doesn't seem that difficult of a path. The only upsets would be mild ones like Pittsburgh, who always finishes .500 or better winning in Seattle and NYG, who just came off a 3-game win streak, beating the Rams team traveling across the country,.

Frankly if Fields doesn't put up a big game this week, then you go into the draft with no hesitations.

If 2 years and 14 games isn't enough to make you hesitate, then IDK why this 1 particular game would.

Because going into yesterday he'd been playing better and more consistently over his last 6 or 7 starts and I was slightly leaning towards keeping him. Yesterday, he was completely taken out of the game and good defense or not, that wasn't acceptable. So yeah, right now I'm pretty firmly in the QB with pick 1 camp.

Yeah I'm pretty firmly in the "draft Williams/Maye" camp after yesterday, and I'm not sure there's much Fields can do in the last 3 games to change my mind.

I had heard that scouts were somewhat alert to Fields's downsides before the draft, so I looked up some old scouting reports. This I found pretty interesting (via https://www.nfl.com/prospects/justin-fields/32004649-4576-9504-963d-c33127e80752) :

He sees the field fairly well inside the Buckeyesâ quarterback-friendly offense but needs to become a full-field reader and prevent his eyes from becoming transfixed on primary targets. He sticks open throws with accuracy and velocity thanks to a sturdy platform and good drive mechanics. He's also comfortable throwing into intermediate holes of a zone. A slower operation time and a lack of a twitchy trigger will require him to work with better anticipation and pressure recognition pre- and post-snap. He takes more sacks than coaches will be comfortable with but he also digs his way out of holes and creates explosive plays.

Welp.

Despite being in the Williams/Maye camp I'd still like to see Fields have a good game against the Packers while beating those fucks.  I'm so tired of seeing Bears QB's and their offense cramp the bed vs. the Packers, the Packers are not some defensive juggernaut.  It's been more inconsistent bad play on Fields part than anything.

Been in the QB at 1/2 camp.  Still in the "can Fields be the bridge QB?" hot take camp, but that takes a big hit if for no other reason that Flus being retained probably just took a hit and I think it's more likely he'd be retained under Flus than a new Head coach.

This is a good thing of course as I'd like to see Flus replaced. But we don't seem to have any good idea what mgmt might be thinking.  I kind of want to see them eliminated for good in an embarrassing fashion just to see if Warren will operate differently. But only slightly.  Still gonna root for some improbable playoff route on their 3% odds because I find tanking more than a single game abhorrent (and even a one game tank week 18 against GB I won't be able to actually root for that)

The worst case of Fields playing well any or all of the last 3 games is improving trade value slightly.  I'll root for Fields til he's no longer a Bear.

Welp.

Fields scoring reports in college had him read to filth.  Bears fans had this narrative that he was a generational 1b to Lawrence who only fell because racist NFL has believed some random hatchet job about his work ethic.

But the reasons he fell, and the reasons he's failed in the NFL, were all right there.  Constant references to struggling with blitzes and pressure, slow operation and slow processing.

I was gonna take my kids to this game since ticket prices are so cheap on the secondary market but probably wouldn't get home until after 8 on XMas Eve if I go.  Ridiculous time for a game between 2 crappy teams

"Trust" is a strong word. I'm not overly terrified of giving them one.

In totally Bears move if Eberflus and Getsy are retained I believe they'd fair better with Maye than Williams.

I'm a little scared to ask why, because a lot of fans have weird ideas about what kind of QBs Fields, Maye and Williams are.

If you do go, at least it will be a balmy 50 degrees.

Williams is more of extend the play, sounds like he's potentially better than Fields at processing, beat blitzes whereas, Maye is looked upon as less of a creator and more of a pocket passer.

 https://www.profootballnetwork.com/drake-maye-draft-scouting-2024/ -

Maye is a measured, precise, and instinctive passer who can test defenses in the intermediate and deep ranges. He’s better than Williams at maintaining pocket discipline, staying on rhythm, and taking what’s given in the short range, and he can carve defenses apart in the intermediate range with his anticipatory high-velocity javelins.

In fact, one of Maye’s most exciting traits is his actionable field vision and anticipation. He identifies leverage advantages in coverages instantly, and he can capitalize just as quickly.

Maye actively uses his eyes to freeze DBs, has an understanding of how to open the field at his will, and has the rocket arm to take advantage. And he can also multitask and manage space in the pocket while processing the field.

Does anyone trust these coaches with a rookie QB?

I think there's approximately a 0% chance Luke Getsy returns

Higher chance that Eberflus does, but if he does, he won't be coaching the offense anyway

He will be directly involved in hiring the guy that does. And if we know one thing, it’s that flus has a bad track record of hiring coaches
