If the Cubs are serious about building with trades and less via free agency they still can have a nice off season, Jed style. Signing would be Bellinger and Imanaga. Trades would be something like PCA for Naylor and either Allen or Bibee of the Guardians. Add whoever else is needed either way. Then trade for either Lowe of the Rays or Polanco. You add 3 lefties to the line up. Morel or Polanco/Lowe play 3rd. The other is the DH. Add a pen arm or two and you probably spend $60M-$70M. They would have a solid everyday line up, solid pitching and good defense.
It isn’t what we want. But it seems the Cubs are just not a large market. We have to accept it.

I think “accepting” the cubs aren’t a large market team when that’s exactly what we are is the absolute worst thing we could do. This is probably what Tom and Jed want to hear from fans. And you’re giving it to them. But just make sure you’re aware what you’re accepting and buying into is completely wrong and frankly, bull****

Edit: I should add I hope this post doesn’t come off as aggressive towards you Rcal. But the fact that the cubs have made even one fan accept something that is easily proven wrong through fact is maddening and makes me seriously resent this organization.

To be clear, I am not accepting it either. That was meant for sarcasm. But it appears that’s the way this FO/Ownerhip chooses to act. I have been a fan for almost 60 years. I am still going to be a fan. So I can either bitch and moan and come up with ideas of what they should do but never will do. Or figure out what could make them win that is what they realistically can do based on what their way of operating the team. I DON’t LIKE  IT AT ALL.

God, all the new members here have doom boners

Pretty sure everyone is flaccid with the way the Cubs are operating.

Every Cubs fan goes through the doom boner phase

First noticed mine when Jim Hendry flipped Maddux for Cesar Izturis so he could knock in runs with his glove... close second was the Milton Bradley contract. I've got anti-bodies now nothing surprises me anymore.

I find Jeds compassion for the human psyche very reassuring

At risk of rehashing Mervis debate # 4284, Mervis looked clearly frustrated and getting into his own head.  Jared Young looked about as nervous as me shopping for a bread at the grocery store.  I think it was more logic than compassion.

PCA looked out of sorts also in his stint, trying to impress the world.  Different types of personalities.  They're super nervous and super keen, it's all good hopefully they just need a reset.

Hendry stunk but it was general manager Larry Himes who fucked up with Greg maddux

Edit: sorry bad memory on my part. You are correct sir. My bad.

What’s so hard about shopping for bread?

EXECUTE OPERATION CHEAPNESS.  Bulldoze 80% of Wrigley, replace with facsimile with expensive box suites and electronic billboard (scoreboard) and mascot for birthday parties.

Fire good loyal dude and hire manager who knows how to cheat the best in order to make crappy rosters into playoff teams.

Don't sign stars, instead pump Morel with steroids, create Sammy Sosa 2.0 to maximize jersey sales.

Pocket the profits and sell slivers of hope to fans every spring and summer like Tribune-era by striving to slide into playoffs every year with an 88 win club and hope for the best with playoff randomness.  Shove bobble-heads into the pie-hole of any fan that complains.

At this point striving for an 88 win club would be kinda nice. It's been a while since they aimed that high.
