Was fun reading the first couple innings worth of posts. Lot of them aged quite poorly. And I’m sure had I actually been able to watch the game, I would have contributed a couple of those as well.

Honestly baseball-reference claims Choi spent parts of five years in the majors and hit 40 career home runs. 10 of them for us.  I do not remember that at all, I thought he crashed out in like AA

He crashed out into Kerry Wood.

Edit: my bad already discussed. Just reading the game thread after and reacted!

It's days like this you wish Thom wasn't a douchebag homophobe so we could have heard "Enough Already Pt. 2"

One more cool factoid from the last 2 days: If it wasn’t for Patrick Wisdom going 0-2 tonight, every single Cubs hitter that came to the plate the last 2 nights would have had a hit.

21 different Cubs hitters came to the plate, 20 of them had at least 1 hit

Seriously, though, body language aside, his wording implied that there are negotiations to (not) comment on in-season, which is news in and of itself.

I agree.  I think he's implying there's discussions going on.  The Cubs would be kinda silly to want to let him walk and Belli would be a fool to want to pay elsewhere as long as the Cubs can get near his price.

He's been a fantastic fit in every way.  Next year he'd be a nice player to bring back so there's flexible backup options at 1B and CF for Mervis and PCA next year.

Dusty frustratingly wouldn't play him ahead of Karros in 03.  He also had the collision with Wood in the Wood/Clemens game when the ambulance came on the field (how the hell did you forget that)? He was hitting pretty well (.246/.392/.500 through 167 PA) when it happened but was never the same the rest of that season.

We traded him (straight up, IIRC) for Lee after that year, though, so it turned out OK.  I think my first post on here was to discuss that trade lol.

Also, incidentally, the only foul ball I've ever gotten at a game came off Choi's bat in early 03 (crowd was very sparse).

This is the worst infield defense performance I’ve ever seen.

And their outfield hasn't been much better.

Why is today's game a night game? Especially with a 1:20 start tomorrow.  Braves have a day off today too

Anyone from the “we should have sold our guys for mid-level prospects” crowd care to chime in?

I mean it’s been a fun 2 games… but if we don’t make the playoffs that crowd is going to have a pretty good argument. Relax

No, they're not.

Always that one guy who wants to introduce his politics into a baseball discussion… 🤦‍♂️

Politics? I don’t think that word means what you think it means

Hey man, there are two sexual orientations (Straight and Political)

Just like there are two races (White and Political) and genders (Cis and Political)

Get with the times

This might not be the place for you if you think that's getting political.

It's a shame he didn't get to continue his membership in the Bitter Ex-Cub announcers club with Steve Stone and Chip Caray.

They'll still be completely wrong even if we lose out.

Couldn't Thom just talk baseball? He's the one tha-there's a drive into deep left field by Castellanos, it will be a home run. And so that will make it a 4–0 ballgame.

Yes.

It was disappointing that we couldn't enjoy the schadenfreude of listening to a specific rival baseball team's announcer talk about the baseball game that our baseball team was winning by doing baseball better than their baseball team did baseball, because that baseball announcer was fired for accidentally letting slip that he's a vile bigot during a previous baseball game.

I totally get it. Brennaman was wrong.

He views are gross and dehumanizing. But the point I’m making is that by someone here bringing it up… they are doing the same thing.

let’s just talk baseball.

Different things aren’t the same
