I'm at 7/9 so far on today's (with 2 guesses left) but I'm too scared to put in my guesses for the final 2

EDIT: Poop, ended with 8/9. Whiffed on Mets hitter with .300 average. Took a gamble and tried Gary Carter

EDIT 2: My grid:

did this one twice today, using unique players for each set...

Spoiler

I'm too lazy to embed images, so going top to bottom and left to right:

Strop/Albert Belle/Ripken Jr/Todd Hundley/Andres Gimenez/Jose Reyes/Milton Bradley/Cliff Lee/Edgar Martinez

Sammy/Eddie Murray/M Tejada/Baez/Carlos Carrasco/Keith Hernandez/Jim Bullinger (0.01%)/Mulholland(0.1%)/Ichiro

Today was a fun one! I ended up with a rarity score of just 37. And I got another 0.01% selection.

Spoiler

Left to right, top to bottom...

Felix Pie (2%), Albert Belle (19%), Brian Roberts (5%)

Angel Pagan (0.4%), Julio Franco (0.6%), Luis Castillo (0.5%)

Dave Hansen (0.01%), Omar Vizquel (10%), Jose Vidro (0.2%)

Dave Hansen never got the love he deserved.

7/9 for me today. Thought I was going to be slick with my Cubs/Mariners first guess but he never made it to the bigs with the Cubs.

Vogelbomb?  I got 9/9 today with some pretty household names.

Spoiler

Not getting Arrietta as the Cubs/Os player should be a fineable offense.

Spoiler

There's a long list of Cubs/O's, but Sammy Sosa is the easy choice for me.

Spoiler

This is deep nerd territory, but my friend had a whole ton of those MLB Showdown cards (basically another version of Strat-o-matic) and Dave Hansen was one of my favorite cards in the game because he had a crazy high on-base rating but also had serious power, which was a rare combination in the game.

I know there are only 30 teams, meaning there are only (I think) 435 combinations of 2 teams you can choose so repeats will happen, but I'm surprised that there are 2 repeats today that were both in the June 21st edition.  And all 3 teams involved (Cubs, Orioles, Mariners) are in the same exact spot on the board as they were June 21st.  When I first saw it today I thought for a second I accidentally got the old one showing up.

Yeah I used a different name for Cubs/O's today just because I didn't want to use Sammy yet again. I used him at least twice already, including that June 21 one.

The Cubs column was good for some rarities. Not sure how I remembered the guy I put in for Seattle/Cleveland, but I did manage to get my best rarity score (34) so far.

Spoiler

I had Brian Matusz, Eddie Murray, and Melvin Mora for the top row.

Middle row is Angel Pagan, Bartolo Colon, and Edgardo Alfonzo.

Bottom row is Glenallen Hill, Ben Broussard, and Edgar Martinez.

Of course, imitators and variations are showing up.  If anyone is interested in a football version:

Note: apparently, the player data pool is only guys who have played in the 1999-2022 seasons

Personally, I'm not sure how good I can be at a football version.  Baseball and maybe basketball are the 2 sports I can do this and have a shot to get 9/9

Yeah, I have no shot at an NFL version

I used the guy who recorded the last out

Yeah, wasn't sure how to do the spoilers. And I 'm with Ding Dong on my Cubs/Orioles pick.

I looked at it and couldn't guess a single square. Whatever part of my brain that stores useless baseball trivia apparently has no capacity for football trivia

this rarity score blows my previous high out of the water, having a Cubs column is child's play

i was surprised my Mets .300 pick wasn't way more chalk-y, and quickly realized the list of BAL-CHC is endless and so chock full of ignominy
